PR Plum

This was one of the first inks I bought, and the first one to use. I selected it because of this page.

The files I present are calibrated correct values in the file, with an embedded ICC profile for Adobe RGB. You should be able to compare any of the scans side-by-side to see the difference, because the exposure and adjustment is exactly the same in each ink scan. To aid color perception on your monitor, there is a thin white border to show the paper color (the paper is faintly blue in sunlight) and a gray matte. The matte is perfectly neutral, so judge the color relative to that.

On another thread from 2005, there were some comments that this ink is too wet, even more so than Tanzanite. My experience is quite the contrary. It is well behaved and seems to be in the normal range. The Hero Gold 300 is a rather wet writer, and this ink has no problems with it. I can keep pens in my pocket and they don't leak into the cap.

The variation and shading is surprising for such a saturated ink, especially with a fine pen and this paper. The wetter pen shows more variation, and you can see the tone difference between the wetter and dryer pens. Below is a more extreme close up, so you can see the feathering for yourself, and also a random light spot.

So what color is it?

The Hue is 309°, which is more Magenta then Red, and well within the purple range. Looking at different S and B values on the screen shot, you can see that it is very much of a "wine" color, and most of the nuances of colors in this range has to do with picking just the right saturation and brightness. A lot of other purples are on the south side of the Magenta, being Magenta-Blue. I think the Magenta-Red range has the "wine" look. Compare with PR Burgundy Mist, which looks like the same Hue, but less saturation.

very nice, thank you.

i've taken an interest in this shade of the colour world, through various brands, over the last year, setting aside a few pens for it

Nice review. I like the shading.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

Wow, what a great way to compare color.

Thank you.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

As much as I hate to say it, as I have too many inks already! This looks like an ink I should have :-)

I thought the same when I read a review of this ink a few months ago. Well, a local website has it on sale, so I just had to buy some. It arrived last Friday and I filled a pen with it today. It's really nice. The only problem is that it's similar to Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Budo which I love (and have 2 bottles). Oh well, I'm on a self-imposed shopping ban for a while.

I love YB, and I have it in my pen right now, but it's different. hmmmm I see a potential CoRazy View.
