I'm new to this forum, and a relative newbie to foutain pens. Over the past year of so of collecting, I've had the opportunity to own the following:

Visconti Wall Street LE, pearl gray celluloid

Pelikan M405

Pelikan M805

Omas Ogiva demonstrator

Montblanc 149

Sheaffer Legacy Heritage-cut palladium

I have traded or sold the above, and currently own the following:

Lamy 2000 LE (stainless steel)- a very cool pen

another Pelikan M805

Waterman Carene

all of the above are either all silver colored (Lamy) or black with silver trim, as this seems to be my "theme/genre". I'm currently on the hunt for more black/silver pens, and look forward to doing more research. I welcome you comments as to which pens you like that meet this criteria:

-I do like piston fillers, but c/c pens are fine too

- decent sized pen, minimum of Pel M405 size and maximum of Pel M1000 size

- regular edition pens, as the LE ones tend to go for a lot more money

- trim must be fairly straightforward looking.

thanks all!

There are actually a LOT of pens out there that would fit your stated requirements. Have fun choosing!

thanks so much for your reply! I enjoyed seeing the scans too, as i'm not exactly up on what pen is what yet. The Parker 51 at the bottom of the page looks intriging, and is $100 on that website in near mint condition. is that about right for this pen and condition?

thanks again!

Here you can see the Sailor Professional Gear also with silver trim. Sailors are known to have the best factory nib quality around.

thanks Simon! the Pro Gear is really nice looking, I like the flat top to it. the only concern i've had is that i've read it is thick but not long. using it un-posted may mean it is a bit small for my hand. have you seen one in person, and care to comment on the size to it (especially compared to pens i know, such as the Pelikan M 400-600-800 series) thanks!

I'm partial to the black with silver finish, too. I've got a VP just like the one pictured above.

Doogy, I'm trying to get a feel for the sizes of the Pelikan 405 and 805 without having seen them in person (I'll probably be able to see a 400 and an 800 later this week, but I want to know now! :P ) I, too, have a Lamy 2000: how do the Pelikans compare to it in size?

I get the feeling the 405 is smaller than average and the 805 is larger than average, but by how much? Is the 805 so big that people stare every time you pull it out?

Ryan.

Ryan,

The 805 seems a tad thicker than the 2000, although they are almost the exact same length. The 405 is quite a bit smaller, and lighter than both. Bear in mind, i have the all stainless steel 2000 LE, so it is quite a bit heavier than the regular 2000. the 800 series is not a pen that will make people wonder "is he overcompensating for something by using that?!" :D The M1000 however, is another story! You can't go wrong with either, and good luck in your search!

Hi Doogy, I don't have the Sailor Professional Gear yet, but I found a comparative picture in this thread on FPN:

It is in the fourth picture from the top.

i have to suggest the danitrio densho raw ebonite. i absolutly love mine(flexy fine).

they may not be the most flashy thing out there but they are black and silver.

to me they are the epitome of understated elegance.

it may sound strange but the densho is really a fest for the senses.

the subdued sheen of the raw ebonite, its unique smell, its warmth to the touch, the nibs responsive flex and soothing sound gliding across the paper make for a womderful writing experience.

for the price it will be difficult to find a better FP.

good luck with your search.

all the best :D ,

Jason

thanks again Simon! the Pro Gear appears to be roughly the same size as the Pelikan Chicago, which i understand is in the M600 series in size. Hmmm.....that makes it interesting, as i find that size to be nice too! :P

thanks again!

Norman,

to be honest, I had never heard of Duke pens. It seems like they have a whole bunch of different models that meet my criteria. I'll do a little more research into them, as it appears they have some nice looking pieces. thanks for your input!
