Thanks. A question about this was up on the forum and my Phileas was in need of a drink of ink so I decided to set up the camera and document my standard process. It goes faster without all the narration. Rinsing the syringe afterwards takes just a few seconds under running water.

Man, you're an early bird, that's for sure!. OR a late bon vivant......:)

I've been refilling cartridges all my life, mostly due to the price, but also avaibility. When I was a student it was not that easy for me to find the time to go to the right place to get them, and money was -still is- an issue. Recycling plastic is always a great idea. Shame Waterman's not making piston fillers...

I usually use a ramekin for water so that cleanup's a bit faster.

Is that like a pipette? Cuz a pipette would work fine too and would be easier to rinse. Although rinsing the syringe only takes a few seconds.

I knew as soon as I posted this someone would need to know what a ramekin was. I wasn't going to answer the question unless someone asked. ;)

This is a ramekin. Available in most major cities, cost $2.

Oh, I get it. Yeah, sometimes if I'm doing a lot of it, I'll grab a low-profile drinking/cocktail glass from the cupboard for water, especially if I'm using the syringe to flush cartridges with water and "hose off" the internal sides before changing ink colors. But just for casual refills I turn on the tap and use my hand to cup some water under the stream and cycle the syringe a couple times that way. The problem with a glass or a ramekin is that some ink gets on the ends of things and will taint the water. I'd rather use continuously running water.

Ahh. I have a herniated disc, which causes one leg to go numb if I stand up more than 5 minutes, so I tend to use a ramekin (or a glass for larger projects) and rinse again under running water at the end.

I use an old jar that is short, and I also use it to store my syringes (like a pencil cup) when I'm through refilling. Another thing that I add is that I use a shot glass to hold the cartridge. That way I don't get ink on my fingers if the cartridge overflows.

Good grief folks - all you need is a Duo button filler and you don;t have to go through all this nonsense.

George S figured this all out c 1910.

And Dierdre, get the disk fixed, life is easier if you free up the nerves to your legs - the sooner the better. I've lost sensory and motor at 3 different levels and had this sorted out. You walk within 12 hours

Working on the process through the HMO, but since it is improving they're not likely to do anything quickly.

It's only occasionally a problem, actually. I've just gotten out of the habit of standing straight up for extended periods.

Nice work!

I tried to refill some cartridge and was hoping to get better flow (not just capacity) than with converter. In the end, the flow was relatively similar. Do you feel like it improve your flow?

BTW did you buy that needle blunt? Or did you "tweaked" it yourself?

That's the easy way to buy them. :)

I bought three from someone here, but I evidently didn't write down the name.

CMaxx is the name of our resident cartridge refill kit supplier here at FPN. The syringes come blunt, no need for tweakage.

Thanks for the video, Captnemo. Excellent work. Now we just need it stickied (or continuously bumped). :D

Nice hands and voice, CaptNemo  How do you keep your hands looking so young? By refilling cartridges and not having to scrub a layer of skin off inky hands :roflmho: ! Thanks so much for the demo. I only have very fine needles to work with and would like a larger one; I'll have to look into this (as well as a decent hand cleaner instead of Ajax!).
