Hi all,

I've just got an eyedropper. Description is similar to the one in this thread https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=11279 but the pen I have is not even similar to this one.

Brand: Pitus Mfg Co - New York (though I haven't found anything in google regarding this)

Cap shows a missing chunk (almost 1cmx1cm) near the screw.

Nib is golden, says: Warranted - 14 K - N°4 (heart shaped breather hole).

It is all black (most probably hard rubber, but I am not sure), with engraved surface. On the bottom of the barrel it says "N°4" again (related with the nib?).

I don't know how much it is worth, but as I've only paid for it about USD 10.- even if it is worthless I haven't lost that much.

Anyone around there that knows more about this pen? Something I should care about? I am planning to duplicate the missing part (with black resin): Should I?

I'll upload some pictures as soon as I have them (most probably tomorrow).

Rgds.

Martin

I could not find anything in the usual venues (google, ancestry, etc.) at least nothing positive. Some Pitus in NY 1900-1930 census(es?) but no concrete connection with Pitus Manufacturing Co or fountain pens in particular. It would be great if you could post photos - maybe someone more knowledgeable might be able to make a connection. Judging from the other article this appears to be an "early" 1900-1910 pen but I am not sure.

What makes this pen "valuable" is its evidence for the presence of this company. I hope we learn more about it.

OK, here you have the picture I've promised before. Though a bad one (shame on me! I am a photographer...) but the PS digital camera I have is not even similar to my SLR.

The "Pitus..." writing is quite weak, it should be noticed (though not read) on the highlighted part of the barrel.

The crack on cap is indeed noticeable. Any hint on how to repair this?

I'll try to get better pictures at home and post them here. I guess I can get some close-ups of nib and engravings. For the new pictures I'll get a softbox (this would improve detail on engravings).

The ruler is in cm, not in inches. Though quite obvious I don't like anyone to think I have a giant eyedropper pen.
