What Ink Color For My New Pelikan?

Howdy!

I recently received my Pelikan M400 in white/tortoise ( drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif ) and am trying to decide what ink will coordinate best with its color scheme. I'm thinking of possibly an amber or golden brown color, but I can't decide which one.

I need your help -- what do you all think would look best with this gorgeous pen? smile.gif

I would suggest Noodler's Golden Brown, but check to see if it has some red components first - the red is likely to stain the pen.

R&K Verdigris might be a nice match (same color as the visulated section) if you can find some.

I suggest either the Avacado or the El Lawrence or the Zhivago, to go with the color scheme. But if you want to be more feminine, try the Mata Hari, or the Arabian Rose.

It's a really nice pen. Congrts!

Mine is currently filled with Vert Olive and Gris Nuage mix. But I think Stipula olive green would be really nice match smile.gif

A brown wouldbe nice, too but mine was slightly stained at the cap thread from Kiowa Pecan so be careful!

Oh, goodness, I hadn't thought about staining... ohmy.gif I had Noodler's red/black in it, but I just ran to the sink and flushed it out! wink.gif

I'm gonna check out the suggestions you've given me, but keep those thoughts comin'! smile.gif

PS I'm currently eyeing Diamine Sepia or Herbin's Lie de The. But I've been looking for an excuse to pick up a bottle of Zhivago... wink.gif

PPS The two scans I've found of R&K Verdigris (Pendemonium & The Writing Desk) show it as blue? blink.gif

any color is okay; however, given the light color (of the pen), I would be worried about staining. Stay away from red or colors that contain red (like purple, orange, etc.), or you risk having your white/tortoise stained.

I put Levenger Fireball in mine.

Diamine Sepia would look great! I have it permanently loaded in a copper Esterbrook J but your Pelikan would be a much nicer match. A great ink with great flow and nice shading.

I filled mine with Stipula's Garden Green

This ink PERFECTLY matches the barrel of the pen. The color of the barrel and the ink are almost exactly the same.

Shahrin,

Any chance you might be able to scan a writing sample or a pic of the pen alongside the writing sample with that ink? Sounds very intriguing. - M.

Shahrin

I very much appreciate your efforts ajnd the photo gives me a very good idea of the combination. You have a great eye - this is a great match. Since I don't have any Stipula ink, this may be the one I get and just in time for Spring/summer. Thank you. - M.

Ooooh, that ink does look purty! And what a perfect match to the pen, too. Although I am definitely leaning toward Diamine Sepia, I am still not firmly decided on anything yet. blink.gif Does anyone else sometimes think there are too many inks out there to choose from? (I know, I know, blasphemy! tongue.gif )

This thread has been a lot of fun! smile.gif

You might try Rohrer & Klingner Alt Goldrün. It is a nice green with a shade of gold in it.

The Inked Nib has 50 mL bottles for $10. They will even send samples of the two or three colors you interested in for free.

I was going to suggest that too -- it looks similar to the the scan of the Stipula Garden Green -- a very pretty color! Or perhaps Noodler's Golden Brown?

I rememember reading about solutions to this "problem" (matching inks to that lovely Pelikan) here before, but haven't been able to turn up the thread in a search. Please let us know what you decide!

I've been experimenting with my M400 Honey Tortoise for a couple of months now, and so far my favorite is Pelikan Brown. It's not a perfect match but accents the pens colors nicely. Some of the previous suggestions sound interesting too. Good luck!
