Black n' Red

I cannot believe how nice this books are. I purchased a small case bound journal and it is superb for fountain pens. My Parker Vector and Cross Aventura glide across the pages ever so effortlessly. This is a great product for the price and it is available locally to boot, how rare.

I have switched entirely to their books (I like the larger A4 size) and their legal pads. No problem with any ink/pen combination I have tried.

Same here, been using them for some time now. I have noticed a longer than normal drying period for some inks in wet pens. Specifically, Noodlers Black and PR Black Cherry in my fexi-fine Danitrio Takumi and medium Visconti Voyager.

Overall good quality and like Phillychuck, I like the A4 size. I have noticed they are getting easier to find in the US (Georgia anyway). Previously, I had to stock up when I went to Europe.

Can anyone point me to an online dealer that ships internationally, or an Australian dealer?

I live in Washington state. In my area I can find Black and Red notebooks, bound and spiral, at Office Max. I love them. I buy two sizes of the spiral and the smaller bound book will be my next journal.

I am having quite a bit of feathering in mine using Nooder's Blue with a Parker "51" and with a Lamy 2000 (both fine points).

I have been using cross and PR without feathering along with black Quink. Thats kinda weird.

Hello. Thank you for the discussion. I don't suppose there are any Canadians out there who have found any of this Black n Red stuff? I have been looking since I first heard about it, but to no avail. I suppose I could order off the internet, but I would like to buy locally, if possible (Calgary, AB).

Thanks in advance.

Why, sometimes I'd like to take a switchblade and a peppermint and a Cadillac and throw it all in a fire.

HI Funny how this thread came up just as I returned from Staples with a Red N' BLack notebook. I got it because I usually buy Cambridge LImited wirebound notebooks and for some reason my local store is no longer carrying them. SO I figured I would try a Red N/ Black.

The paper is amazingly smooth and what I notice about it is that for some reason this paper reduces the width of the line you would expect from your pen. In other words, when I wrote with an Omas FP that normally puts down a full fine line, I found it put down a thin fine line. My Duofold that normally puts down a full medium puts down a thin medium on this paper.

Seems like a nice paper.

By the way, anyone who is having trouble finding these and wants to get hold of a page before of this paper before committing to an internet order or such is welcome to back channel me and I would be happy to send you a sheet for free......unless I get a million requests from people all over the globe. :)

I will be curious to see what others have to say. Very smooth paper. j

Interestingly, I've never got on with Black and Reds. I actually have found the paper not to be smooth with the ink/pen combinations I've been using. And, I don't even have to pay for them as the last couple of places I have worked (and at my current place) they're stock stationery. The paper is good quality, but there has always seemed a 'drag' factor to them - that is the ink doesn't seem to provide the lubrication it should.

HOWEVER,

I am wondering whether this holds true worldwide - whether the paper stocks have varied, and I've just been unlucky.

The reason being is we have some special edition Pink and Black notebooks, thought I would try one, and I must say the paper is fantastic!

I'm converted.

Anyone else had mixed views of the ol' BnRs?

I saw these at staples but haven't tried them. Guess I'll give in and give one a try. Price looks good!

I just bought a B & R at Staples and am very happy with it. Writes smoothly with the pens and inks I've tried with it, with no feathering or bleed through. Even the Hero semi-flex M didn't bleed through, and that's the wettest writer I've encountered.

YMMV,

If you have no luck with the reply i am happy to post you a sample to see if you like the paper, I suggest the smallest notebook, then if you like it we can talk again

John Dickinson Ltd is a respected supplier of stationery in the UK. I recently bought a couple of A5 size Black n' Red books for occasional use for writing practice. I was very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of this product. The surface is extremely smooth and there is no bleeding or feathering with any ink or pen I've tried.
