Just a heads up...

So I'm at Borders today, spending more time looking at stationery than books () and in the midst of all the clear Paperchase pencil cases and business card holders, there's a weird plastic case with... what's that..? a Lamy logo?? So it's held together with a rubber band, but there is definitely a Vista FP w/ papers inside. But the box was a bit misshapen, and, as I said, held toether with a rubber band. So I hunt around a little bit and found one more... sort of... It was the same Lamy box, but empty... Somebody had pilfered the pen & papers... really, they may as well have stolen the box at that point too, to save me the false hope. I didn't find anymore, and the one that was there was a Medium point on top of everything else, so I passed (for now.. we'll see.. although I figure while I have time off from school I'll go hit up Bertram's anyway). They seemed out of place and didn't have normal Borders tags, but there were two of the boxes there, so I was a bit confused. Might have been special orders that somebody didn't pick up or something... Thought I'd let you folks know, however, that your Borders may or may not have some Lamy Vistas. $25, not the winning price of the week, but if you're already shopping and end up with some gift card residue to spend, you could snag one at a fair price, perhaps.

Thank you for the info! I never, ever remember to check out pens in a book store, and this is a reminder. It has been my experience, with paper at least, that a store like Borders is more inclined to mark down an item that isn't selling than a typical pen store. 'Could get lucky someday if I remember to look . . . ;)

I, too, was at Borders recently and bought a Paperchase notebook. (cheaper than Moleskines). Lamy refills for both fountain pens and rollerballs were for sale, hanging on the end cap.

So, you'd wonder, if they have refills, they must have the pens. I looked around the area and did not find any Lamy pens at all. I asked a clerk, but she doesn't even know what a FOUNTAIN PEN is. :)

The manager has no idea why they would order refills but have no pens.

If it matters, this Border is in Southern California.

FYI: Borders will let you use credit from your Borderes Rewards account AND a Borders discount coupon on the same item. I bought a Vista for $7.52 out of pocket thanks to their generosity.

That is how it is done! Glad that worked out for you... I completely forgot about rewards points, I've been up at school for a while now and don't have a Borders particularly close to me there... I should check online and see if I have anything to spend!

Sharkle, my Borders is in MD, a lot closer than jofpn in California... So you might luck out as well!

P.S. Mine carries Lamy RB refills, but not FP refills. Go figure.

I am actually hoping they don't sell the pens at Borders because I'm pretty sure I'll snag one of those quickly. But with rewards point and discount coupons, what is $8 for a Lamy, right?

The Safaris sell for about $20 online, I think. I just bought a Lamy Studio and I'm not happy with the nib. It's squeeky and scratchy. I can probably swap it with one of my Safaris or send it out for repair.

It looks like the Lamy's may be relatively new to Borders. It may also not be located consistently from store to store.

The store where I found them is about 4-5 years old., and is fairly large. They had the pens on one side of the island stands that separate the check out line from the rest of the store. That store only got them recently. The Vista FP's's are not anywhere close to the other Paperchase merchandise. In the Paperchase section they have the Vista Rollerball, and refills for both.

The newer (~6 months old), and smaller store doesn't have the Vista FP, but it does have the Vista rollerball. It also has refills for both.

Are any of these Borders stores located in malls? We have one at one of our local malls that used to be a Waldenbooks. It's a decent-sized store considering it's in a mall. That might make it more likely that they've got Lamy pens.

Thank you,

-William

This is from the UK so it may not be of any interest, but I spotted Lamy Vistas in the Paperchase section of Borders in Cambridge yesterday. And they also had them in the separate Paperchase shop too. Lots of them. No idea about the price though. The Paperchase shop seems to have started selling Tombow and Lamy - they also had Studios in steel and black.

I never bother to check online... I just go up to the register, hand over my Rewards card, and I say, "I think I have a discount or something on this." Every time I do, they say, "Yes, you have an X% shopping day." A few days ago I lucked out -- they said, "Yes, you have $46.00 of holiday savings! Do you want to use that now?" Inside, I'm thinking, "WTH is holiday savings?" but of course on the outside I just say, "Sure!" :)
