Keep writing.

Keep doing it and doing it.

Even in the moments when it's so hurtful to think about writing.

Now I know most of you "ink snobs" will laugh at this...

but I come today to praise Mont Blanc Je 'taime ink !!

Forget about the silly "rose petal smell gimmick" and concentrate on the color.

This is the most intense, true red color ink I have found-- an amazing color red!

Perfect for the HOLIDAYS

I use Quink Red and Green for cards now - both seem just the right colour - bright red and rich green

Oh, dear.... It's not my day...

I would have said "Noodlers Ottoman Rose".

(I still don't think Antietam is really a red - but I still think I've got an odd bottle, having seen a couple of writing samples on here.)

I'd be interested in any comments about the Herbin reds - I've been thinking about trying one, having been disappointed with the Antietam.

I voted for Diamine Monaco Red. This is a dark red and would not suit anyone who likes bright colours.

I use it as one of a number of mark-up colours, but not for everyday writing.

I just picked up a bottle of Noodler's Widow Maker... I'm patientl^H^H^H^Hanxiously awaiting the arrival of a new Rotring 600 Black/Gold to fill with it... I'll report back soon. :D

The results are in... Noodler's WM is a deep, blood-like red. I've only tested it in a Rotring F and VP B (with flow issues) but it's a nice color. It's a bit deeper than plain old "red" and has nice shading.

Although PR Dakota Red is my favorite red, I used Noodler's Summer Tanager (definitely NOT red!) for notes inside some of our cards this year. Summer Tanager is a bright, cheerful orange, and the Lamy Safari medium nib I was using laid down a line almost as wide as the Sheaffer Broad nib I used for signatures in Noodler's Hunter Green. The orange made a nice complement to the green, and together they made for a very warm message. B)

Christmas is now over but I'll add this thought for next year.

I used Noodler's Widow Maker for addressing cards and they all went through to the correct destination.

Noodler's Widow Maker is red enough to be red and dark enough to be read.

  • 1 month later...

Sorry, this is a bit late (I've just registered) but may be useful for next December:

Parker Penman Ruby is a rich warm, antique looking red, about the colour of mulled wine. Very Christmassy!

... if you can find some. Websters in Bromley may have some left.

Hi,

This poll has been released about a year ago and Christmas is coming again...

So, has anyone seen new reds this year which should be mentioned here as well (e.g. Montblanc Seasons Greetings ink)?

Keep writing.

Keep doing it and doing it.

Even in the moments when it's so hurtful to think about writing.

Yes, Montblanc Season's Greetings 07 should definitely be on the list. It is a quite sensational red, probably the best of the ten or so reds I currently have.

Whereas most reds with brown undertones seem to be at the warmer, orangey end of the spectrum, like Noodler's Antietam, this is a cooler crimson/carmine red, with hints of true sepia. Imagine, if you will, the effect of a Sienese peasant wiping his muddy boots on the incarnadine velvet of a dress circle seat at La Scala. The gasps from opera goers are not of horror but ecstasy at the resultant colour mix - yes... it's that Fabulous!!

I've never come across Penman Ruby myself, but in the Penman Ruby thread, Tytyvyllus recommended an MB Bordeaux/Sheaffer Red 50:50 mix. I tried this, but with Waterman Red, which is a good solid fruity ink. The resultant mix is a dead spit for this Season's Greetings 07 red in actual colour, but the consistency of the SG07 is much more saturated , so it writes richer & deeper. Therefore, I wouldn't be at at surprised if this might be the Penman Ruby replacement craved by so many. I can't say for sure, but can't wait for a report from someone who has both of the beauties.

The vanilla scent is a bit cheap and nasty like all perfumed FP inks [no oils and all alcohol based, presumably] and as I said on the other thread, 'Season's Greetings' is such a wimpy name, and we have to keep giving the year to differentiate between inks. For me this is Reindeer Blood, and I shall drink deep.

Levenger Cardinal Red beats all for color.

If you need waterproff, mix Noodler (Swishmix) True Rouge (10 parts) to one part Noodler bulletproof black.

Of the 9 reds I have accumulated so far, Levenger Cardinal Red is the clear winner, followed by Caran d' Ache Sunset. I look forward to seeing the MB 2007 Holiday Red.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.
