Does this really look as red as it does on my monitor?

It is very different from the old Sheaffer Brown that I used a lot in the early to mid 1980s. The nearest I have found to that so far is Herbin Lie de The, which I'm using quite a lot now. It's a rich, mid-to-dark brown, but perhaps doesn't have quite as many coppery highlights as the old Sheaffer Brown.

What you see is what you get especially with this ink. It is almost an orange brown color.

I was looking for Shaffer inks in Slovenia, but there are none in retail stores. Last week I saw a bottle of ink in a plain package. It looks so simple that I overlooked it. I double checked it and found name of factory on it. I will call them and check if it is possible to buy a bottle.

 Shame on you Sheaffer, I do really like the old brown and maybe its gone forever.

Thank you for the tip on the Herbin.

I bought a bottle the other day and started using it in a Sheaffer Tuckaway with fine nib. To my eye the color shades to red, not orange. Certainly not like the scan as it appears on my monitor.

I've had no flow problems either.

My only complaint is that the ink tends to feather quite a bit. I have to be careful as to the paper I'm using.

Not sure I'll buy another bottle, but I would call it a serviceable brown ink if you were looking for something middle of the road.

I tried this and the first thought that came to my mind upon seeing it on paper was to recall the Crayola Burnt Sienna color.

Which, although a favorite among Crayola users, never floated my boat.

YMMV

Nice review of a nice colour, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

The Sheaffer Brown I have in just now looks almost like Pantone color 1545 on this chart: http://www.d-zignsinc.com/view/pantone.html OK, I haven't calibrated this monitor for a while but it doesn't creep much.

When you're good at it, it's really miserable.

Mine looks more like 1535. It's a very well behaved ink. Depending on paper the ink varies in its reddishness. If you're looking for a cool light brown with a hint of red (or perhaps orange) here and there, you'll want to pick up a bottle of it.

This ink is good for a two-sided writing on paper, and unusual among the poor pen inks. That "washable," so that parents can give to children without having to worry, and of course it's not good to write checks. Is erasable / elimination with eradicators sulfate - such as sulfite Pirat Pelikan Super, which is useful for students and personal liberation. Like most of the brown ink pens, and this ink is dry on a whim and a lighter shade of brown for most of the inks ink, rollerball pens, gel. It is a little darker than Pelikan / Cross brown and Parker Quink brown. The new bottle is a good position to open any leakage of fluids and not fill. This ink is safe for old pens, and it is almost neutral pH.

Someone was asking the other day for a substitute for Sailor Red-Brown, and I recommended this ink, which would not perhaps be many people's first thought. Thanks for resurrecting this thread - you can see what I mean! (although, as PenTieRun says, it is perhaps more of a Pantone 1535, so might still need a touch of red to make it work as a Sailor replacement.

I had this ink for a short time ( I agree it looks more like 1535 to me) but it feathered terribly and I didn't like the colour at all. I was expecting something more earthy. I gave it away...

I had an very old cartridge of it that had evaporated to half filled. I added filtered water.

At first it had a green tinge. Later it appears a light brown after I'd written with it a bit.

Not being a cartridge guy, I'd forgotten I'd had it.

On my monitor that ink shown, looks pink.

Seems a little red to me; I prefer dark walnut browns.

P.S. I really liked the reference to dc Talk in the title!

I never used the old Skirp brown but recently I've become fond of this ink. When using broad points you can see different shades and I think it looks expressive and original. I like it for my personal correspondence and journal, would never use it in a business setting though.

I recommend it moderately if you are looking for an original color that stands out but not *that* much.

Have not had problems with excessive feathering, but I think it is a bit too easy to wash this ink in water. Skrip blue black seems more resilent.
