Hi,

Pendemonium says that it should be an orangish red.

yeah - that looks way off to me. The Lamy red I had was in a cartridge and purchased out of desperation when I bought my Safari soooo many years ago. It was a rather washed out orange-red. I took the carts back, handed them to the woman and said "do with what you will on these." that and the black. don't know if the carts are different from the bottled or if the recipe has changed since then. That was... about 1998.

Hi,

Interesting, seven years ago. I still remember 1998 vividly, more vividly than the pictures from my camera (Which are very good indeed). I saw a Lamy blue cartridge a few weeks ago and it was half full after twenty years of just sitting there, maybe the color will be more vivid.

I went through about 11 pages of search results yesterday (and tons of web-stores) trying to find a sample of Lamy Red with no luck; thanks for bringing it back to the top!

I cancelled my order for it :P

The red Lamy cartridges that I bought this week for my new red Safari are pink-tinged, to say the least. I am going to catch some grief from the football players in my classes for marking their papers with pink ink!

My solution is to ditch the red carts and go with PR Dakota Red in the converter!

Ditch the DAkOtA red, and git sum of that Diamine Poppy Red, or that Amaranth for a somethin' different sort of red, or Civil War lookin' Noodler's Antietam blood red..good for them varments papers, too! That's a right red alright!( ...spitting profusely,he said). Often times them thar carts are not the same'n those bottle ones.Plus, why use those plastic thing-a-ma-bobs...that takes a million yrs. to evaporate out of life, when a glass jar waits fur your writtin' tubes, lasts a whole heap more, and won't split your purse like the carts will? Stick with good ol' glass if- in ya' want to see real colors a-popin' and ya' aint ride-in' till sunset. Blam! Blam! got that rattler! Oh..."Red Rattler" is another ink you should get a gander at! Aint that a knee slapper?

Although the liquid looks red in the well-designed bottle and the cap is red, the ink truly is a fluorescent pink which hardly bears a resemblance to red. It's also too thin and watery an ink, IMHO. I have found that my preference for saturated inks knocks Lamy products out of the running. On the plus side, it is quite inexpensive.....I didn't feel too guilty when I gave this one away.

I have since ordered and used J. Herbin 1670 Anniversary edition. Great color.

My carts are definitely orange red. Funny how we are getting pink reds and orange reds which are at different ends of the red spectrum. The basic dye being used must be different. Our eyes can't be that bad.
