Noodlers Iraqi Indigo (permanent ink line)

TheNobleSavage

Recommended Posts

This ink color was supposed to imitate the color of ink that the Iraqi people used to dip their finger in and vote for their candidate. I thought that this was an interesting concept for Noodlers. I love the picture on the label and the words used on the label. " The Freedom of Democracy is the Ultimate Victory over Terrorism and for Peace".

This Might be contraversial for some but for others, it is just another cool color of ink that extends Nathans line of Noodlers inks. I try to stay away from political statements and political opinions here. I do not like to argue or debate politics on a fourm that is intended for Pens, ink and friendship. So please do not respond to this part of the post. I just want to explain my position so there will be no misunderstanding and I just want to post a review on another ink, thats all.

That's an interesting colour (and back-story too). It is to me what indigo should be, a dark blue with a hint of purple. At least that's the way I'm seeing the scan today.

I consider it a close match for La Couler Royale with a milky tone to it. A lot of people do not like it or they thought it would look much different than what it turned out. I happen to like it.

Hi NS,

a close match for La Couler Royale with a milky tone to it

I can relate to that. A very good description :D . Thanks again!

Kind regards,

Wim

Oh, PS: Would you mind if I copied some small pieces of your image? I have been compiling a Noodler's ink list, which compares the scans from different sites, and this is one colour I still haven't been able to find. You can have a copy too, of course! Just let me know.

TIA!

You know, I have to ask my brother about how close one can come to the real colors with scans, photo editing, and monitors settings. He does that everyday as part of his job, so I think he might have some nice tips that could help us.

Hi,

NS:

Thanks! I will make use of your offer! Thanks again!

Denis:

You need some calibration toosl to do so. The ones for home type use sell for the price of a good fountain pen, and that is just to calibrate the screen. I don't know what you need to calibrate your printer.

The chart I made may be very useful, I think, but I don't know whether I could post it here, as I have taken little bits of images from everywhere. Any idea, Denis?

Kind regards,

Wim

I'm sure your chart will be very useful.

If you have Photoshop, you can make a mosiac of them and save them as a pdf. I love pdf. Then just post a link. Of course you can save the mosaic in any format and post it as a pic.

Hi Denis,

The idea was to get an overview of many electronic samples, to be able to see the bandwidth of each colour and get a better idea what to expect.

Also, none of the on-line sellers, and not even Luxury Brands, show all the colours available right now, which was another reason to compile a list.

I am getting a bit worried, though, if Nathan states there are 92 colours right now, so I am missing about a third right now, never seen them anywhere...

They're in an excel sheet right now :D , but I can always print to pdf...

Just want to add Aaron's sample first... :D

Kind regards,

Wim

P.S.: 200th post...

It's a great idea Wim. What I like in the luxurybrand wheel is that the colors are sorted by family. Its been done in one shot too, so if you have one color, you can roughly correct by eyes.

The way you build your chart complements this one well.

It would be great if Nathan would make a chart himself. I'm guessing that no one else has actually seen all Noodler colors except him, with the vendor exclusive lines. May be not even the people at luxury brands themselves, as Nathan must be adding colors like crazy.

My guess is that Greg Clark may have seen and tested the most.

Denis.

Hi Denis,

You have just given me soem great input. I did like the idea of the wheel, so I'll just add a function to do that too. This type of functionality is why I used excel in the first place :D .

I'll post the next version(s).

Kind regards,

Wim

I also really like the color of this ink and I also likes it permanent feature. Don’t really care about where the color comes from.

I found this ink makes it way to the top of my nib, where as I don’t have the same issue with legal lapis....

I am also using it with a fine nib. I want to try it in one of my pens with a med or bold nib, which I feel would make it appear darker and give more hi-lites.

Iraqi Indigo has received by far the most comments from people overseas, oddly - some have said they would not have known about it were it NOT for the story behind the label. Surprisingly, most have liked the concept - though the few that don't...really don't! (yikes, I might need a body guard!) :o

The test was to take a few samples from the first election (my thanks goes out to a few friends serving over there), dry each on a finger tip...and then try to match it...only - with an ink for fountain pen use and not for imprinting. I was most drawn by the fact that they were the first free elections in Mesopotamia, the fertile crescent, the location with the origins of adam and eve, the beginning of western civilization....and there, in that place...common everyday people waved ink stained fingers in defiance of the terrorists that had widely advertised they would kill any person as well as that person's family and loved ones if they dared to participate in those first free elections. On that day the tyranny of terrorism and the whole history of arab subjugation by strongmen was at the very least - called into question. Though many seem to hope it will fail daily - I hope it succeeds...for the sake of a longer term peace without illusory stability, but a new genuine stability founded in the will of a free people. Germany and Japan had the chance to take a step forward, why not Iraq?

An ink that was at once both the sign of death and the sign of freedom. It was such a compelling ink - that I hope those who used it in the election will one day perhaps stumble upon a bottle later on and see at least a more than 80% accurate replica of the color they risked their lives upon.

It had to be an "Eternal" series ink, because people were risking all eternity upon the color it is based upon.

"The pen is mightier than the sword."

The pen could be mightier than the thief and the gun if it is filled with a bulletproof ink too!

May be available again soon, I hope...but not at the moment:

Oooh, that is a nice color. May have to get me some. Love the marketing concept too! Must be targeting red states only ;) (just a joke...)

Is this something that alot of people notice with Noodler's ink. I have seen this with several of the inks in they 'climb' to the top of the nib through the slit and sit there no matter how many times the nib is wiped.

I've noticed it, but only with the eternal inks. Minor inconvience, IMHO, for what else comes with the package. Iraqi Indigo is a wonderful ink, FWIW IMHO.
