A very Special M800

One of the reasons I got into fountain pens was the wonderful materials that FPs were made out of.

One, in particular, that completely mesmerized me was tortoiseshell. The warmth of the color, the rainbow of shades

under different lighting, and just the overall beauty of the material knocked me off my feet.

I'd like to recount for you a wonderful and romantic story about how the quest for my ultimate pen, the M800

tortoiseshell, took me to the far reaches of exotic lands. Where, at every turn in my journey, I was met with

resistance and futility until that glorious time when I stumbled upon her in the light of wonderful and miraculous circumstance.

But, alas, I can't.

You see, I had nothing to do with finding her. And, certainly, the story isn't anywhere near as romantic as I have

just narrated.

It was through the diligence and perseverance of our resident Pelikan nut, Rick Propas, that I now own my grail of grail pens.

So now, I'd like to share her with all you Pelikan fans. Hope you all enjoy her aesthetic as much as I do.

Wow jpr, she really is a beaut. How does she write? I really must send mine off to a nibmeister to get her back in my rotation again.

Now THIS would be a FPN special edition pen that I would buy! I've wanted a tortoise shell 800 since I saw the color in the smaller Pelikans. You're very fortunate to be one of a handful of people in the world that actually own one. Congratulations!

A very beautiful Pelikan. You must post some writing samples of this grail.

You're such a lucky fellow to have found your dreamiest of dream pens. I love the M800 series but I think I've already found my Pelikan Grail pen. It may not be as exotic as yours but I do so love my M605 in blue with Rhodium trim with its XXXF Full Flex nib as it is a perfect fit in my hand for extended periods of writing, and I'm usually a black with rhodium trim kid of guy. Pelikan was also so nice to bring out the transparent blue M205 that goes oh so well with the m605. Guess my dream Pelikan is actually two of them combined.

Enjoy.

Hi,

Lovely pen, I am very very jealous (but console myself because I probably couldn't afford it anyway) and will just carry on enjoying my Tortoise M400.

Congratulations.

Wow, that's the best photo of a tortoise Pelikan that I've yet seen! Other photos don't seem to capture the appearance of the material, and I bet that even your photo doesn't do it justice.

The sword is mightier than the pen. However, swords are now obsolete whereas pens are not.

By all means, Rick is our best Pelikan friend and helper of all times.

@Mike: Yes he is. The M800 tortoise was supposed to be a one to two year project for Rick and I because of the scarcity of the pen.

He made that very clear from the beginning. But, because of Rick, it turned out to be a total of 4 months, if that.
