Sailor King Of Pen (KOP) Black Hard Rubber - review

I dedicate this review to a dear friend that is a very big source of comfort and help for me at a very hard physical and emotional time.

I dedicate it to Ron Sabbagh who also was king enough to sell me this amazing pen.

Sailor King Of Pen or as we usually call it KOP.

I was planing to buy this pen for so long but other pens came before it, especially Montblancs but the time has come and Ron told me he is selling his black ebonit KOP.

The pen came without the box.

 

Ron told me its a great pen which made the wait period even harder.

I also found a box and as I write this review its on its way to me in the mail.

First thing that strikes you when you see the pen for the first time is how big the pen really is. This is probably the biggest pen I ever owned.

The black ebonit (BHR) body is extremely smooth to the touch.

Ebonit is my favorite material to make pens off. There is a warm feeling when you touch it, the material is always so welcoming.

This is a very light weight pen for a pen its size. To my joy the section isn't as fat as I thought it would be so I found it easy to hold and write with.

 

This is a CC filler which I never admired to much but it takes enough ink to use for all you daily needs.

The good part about the CC filler is that it is helping reduce the weight of the pen and give a well balance pen so as I stated before it is not heavy and feels wonderful to write with.

 

The pen is basic black with no trim just a white clip.

The lack of trim prevents the eye to divide the pen and so the pen really look its size (did I say BIG ?).

The lack of trim also makes the pen look very classy, slick and unique.

The KOP looks like a black torpedo ready to be fired.

 

Now we get to the most important of every FP review especially in a Sailor pen case-THE NIB!!!

How good is it ?

 

Well first the nib is a Medium nib.

Thank god this nib feels almost like a European Fine as I like using F nibs.

Its a white nib and what a big nib this is. The nib matches the overall size of the pen.

 

I filled the pen and put the nib on the paper and started to write.

What a lovely nib Soooo juicy, Soooo smooth and Soooo much fun.

But I would like to add it is a very stiff nib so I personally would like a bit more flex.

Saying that this nib is a pleasure to write. What can I say you simply don't want to put the pen down just keep on writing with it all day long.

To my joy it has good feedback so this is probably among my favorite nibs I own.

Conclusion

 

What a pen ladies and gentleman, what a pen.

Its got the presents, super classy look, a gorgeous welcoming ebonit, and a nib to die for.

Very little negative (it ain't cheap and the nib could use just a bit more flex).

Even though its a big pen it feels good in my hands and I mostly like smaller pens for everyday writing.

I highly recommend this pen and now I need to get a MB 149 to compare it to my new KOP.

Very nice Amir. I'm glad you like the pen and I'm looking out for one myself. I think the large nibs are the way to go and a 149 will be a nice partner. How do you think the finish stands up to daily use - easy to scratch or not?

I am ashamed about my hand writing as it looks REALLY bad so that why I never show any writing sample.

Even in my mother tongue it still doesnt look too impressive.

 

Sadly I sold my M800 a long while back so I cant take a picture of both pens together.

I will be happy to take a picture of the pen with any other pen I own, just let me know which one you want me to.

Cant comment about how good the Ebonit is on everyday writing as I just got it but I am pretty sure if you treat it with respect it should be ok.

I find it very hard to take pictures in general right now due to my bad back condition.

Taking a picture of Tzutzik with the pen is simply to painful so I cant

While I cannot provide a photo of the KOP next to a Pelikan M800 I can give you a few shots next to a MB149. I bought and traded the red urushi, actually vermilion, KOP but picked this one up in June. Mine is a broad nib, need to have it trimmed down to a Japanese Med or a Fine. Real quality pens.

Great review. I'm also a lucky recipient of a Ron Sabbagh pen (a Stipula Novocento Puccini) and equally appreciative - love to see the pens he's keeping!

 

I have a couple of Sailors and I agree with you that they are wonderfully smooth nibs that only want for a bit of flex.

I am glad you enjoyed the KOP very much, since I am very much a huge Sailor fan myself. I have a Sailor KOP in Black Urushi myself, but couldn't bear to use the pen. Someday you should try the special Nagahara nibs too. Enjoy your pen in good health. Hope your back is doing better these days

Nice review I would rather buy an older realo than a kop, the converter capacity is just too small.
