A Little Orange Ink For The Season

Margana

Recommended Posts

Nothing says autumn to me more than the color orange. So in celebration of the change in seasons, I made up this swatch, inked several pens, and wrote a post for my blog. These inks are good but something is missing in the bright, in-your-face range. Any recommendations?

For me, Caran d'Ache Saffron is an eye-popping orange, a very nice and well-behaved ink. Another alternative could be Noodlers Operation Overlord Orange...

Diamine Orange or Diamine Pumpkin are great Fall oranges. Watch out for the crust buildup from the Pumpkin - all but one pen have had problems.

I'll second the Diamine Orange. Just inked up an Esterbrook J yesterday with a broad 2968 nib and it looks almost neon! Perhaps a drop of black or brown ink would make it appear more seasonal. I've had only small amounts of build up, good performance over all. Diamine Vermillion is also fairly bright but not quite orange. Wish I could use these colors more often.

What do you mean by this?

I believe it was a reference to the crystallization or "build up" that many have reported about Diamine Pumpkin. See Biffybean's review for a photograph of this effect.

For a bright in-your-face orange, what about Noodler's Dragon's Napalm? That one is pretty electric!

I'll third the recommendation for Diamine Orange. You may not want to use it in a Kultur (it forms an easily removed crust on the nib of mine). However, in Phileases (and most likely any other pen with a cap that doesn't leak air like a sieve) it is a perfectly behaved, bright and cheerful ink.

I've been on a quest to see if I could commit all Seven Deadly Sins in a single day. Finally, it dawned on me I shouldn't try for the One Day Wonder Prize for all seven in one day. It's simply out of any question as you can't commit decent sloth while busily ticking the other six off your crowded "to do" list. -- ViolinWriter

Diamine Orange for me as well, really intense orange, smooth flowing, well behaved, and stands off the page quite well!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

I just loaded up a converter with Diamine Blaze Orange. I haven't tried the regular but this does not form a crust on either pen I've used it in.

I'll add my votes for CdA Saffron and Diamine Orange for vivid, in-your-face, true oranges.

Both perform well, though the Diamine might do a bit of harmless crystallization.

I just got a snail written in PR Orange Crush. I had forgotten how much I like the color.

The new Montblanc Mahatma Gandhi (saffron) ink is a very nice bright orange - similar to Blaze Orange. Very well behaved with great flow. I just posted a review over here, but the scan looks redder than the ink looks to the eye. Hoping someone else can upload a better scan/pic...
