Aurora Ipsilon Silver

Does anyone know anything about this? This is disturbing.

(I've moved the following from another forum.)

Hmmm... this causes me to worry (quoted from Goldspot):

"The Silver version of the Ipsilon range has been created using handcrafted acrylic resins and solid silver featuring hand-finished trims, with great attention down to the smallest detail. The caps of all Silver Ipsilon pens are solid silver in linear pattern, whereas, the barrel in all Aurora Ipsilon Silver pens are either acrylic resins finish or solid silver in linear pattern, with black acrylic rings." [emphasis mine]

So how does one tell the difference when ordering off the internet? I assume that if one goes to a B&M store and visually inspects the pen, he'd be able to tell. Should there be a sterling hallmark on both barrel and cap?

Aurora's site seems to be down right now so I can't go to the source...

Thanks,

-Jon

Honestly, I don't see the issue here. You can choose between an all silver version and an only cap silver, with black (and red, according the 2008 catalogue) barrel. The price is accordingly, of course. The Silver cap only version is the same thing as the Montblanc Douè series.

Hope this helps, cheers.

The issue is not with sterling-capped versions that have barrels which are obviously not silver. No problem there.

The issue is with a sterling-capped version with a barrel that looks like silver, but isn't, and which may be called Ipsilon Sterling Silver anyway (and possibly sold as such).

See this thread. His seems to have been priced accordingly, as you say.

I just never knew they made an all-silver colored Ipsilon with only the cap being sterling, is all. Never saw them advertized that way anywhere.

I can see where this could lead to some confusion.

I may not have been much help, but I DID bump your thread up to the top.

No, that is not be possible. Following my 2008 catalogue, the pen with a metal barrel is definitely silver. I'll post this in the thread you mention for clarity. I think the OP of the review was taken in error by the box (which may be misleading because - that's my speculation - the same box it is used for both models).

Hopefully when the Aurora website will be up again this issue will be clarified once for all. (ps. and hopefully the website is down for a cause: a long due update!!!)

Good! Thank you very much!

What threw me is that the OP of the other thread said that the barrel is not silver, and that the price he paid really does not reflect its being silver. (Maybe it wasn't new.)

Since he is mistaken on that point, I think I MUST find out where he bought it (like 100 125 bucks + tax + Binderizing). :D

Thanks again, Diplomat.

Best Rgds,

-J

You are welcome. My wild guess on the provenance of the pen is Mr. Binder himself since now he is an official Aurora seller (though there is no mention of the Silver Ipsilon specifically on his webpage).
