Review of Private Reserve Orange Crush ink

In a Pelikan M605 fine pen on Staples Brand 28# premium jaserjet paper

Here's my handwritten comments with transcription and links to other reviews below. As ever, your monitor will likely look different than mine. Seems to be pretty close on an iMac running the latest Safari browser.

PR Orange Crush ink was a surprise to me. I was expecting a traffic cone, '70s kitchen sort of orange. Once again the ink fairies knew best and had me pick this color instead of one of those, however. I actually really like the subdued, almost burnt orange here. In a few months (it is summer at the time of this review) this will be my primary fall correspondence color.

One thing I like about this ink is that it looks very orange on white paper and almost brown on cream paper. It looks not unlike Pelikan Brilliant Brown, even.

Some characteristics:

Flow: Average. Works well in all my pens, which vary from wet to dry

Saturation: Lovely shading, even in fine and extra-fine nibs. Must be gorgeous in wider stubs, italics, and flexies

Dry time: Very good, especially for Private Reserve. About 6-7 seconds

Beed thru: None.

Feathering: None, except in unusually bad paper.

Waterproof: No, not especially color fast either. Don't expect this one to outlast a downpour.

Private Reserve Orange Crush is a fun burnt orange and pumpkin leaning orange ink. Why do I always crave sweet potato fires after using this color? Fills the "orange" slot nicely in my ink box. But don't take my word for it.... Here are links to other reviews:

My thoughts exactly! I maybe wish for a bit more orangeness, but I would rather err on the brown side than the "traffic cone" side. Thanks for the review of what is a nice ink.

Thanks for the review, bphollin. I've happily found PR Orange to be quite wet and lubricating. In fact it's the best-lubricating, best-flowing ink I have for my damaged-nib Waterman Exclusive, and as a result I keep PR Orange in it most of the time. As to color, I love how it gets redder as it ages on the paper, especially Moleskine. Great, surprising color.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

This is interesting. On my monitor, it seems to exhibit a lot more red than I have observed in my use with it.
