Dexter Wax Seals

I have been toying with the idea of having a wax seal signet ring made and have found that Dexter Seal Engraving has the nicest rings that I have seen. They are also the most expensive. So before I spend a small fortune, I was wondering if anyone out there has a ring made by them and what they think.

I found a few threads here from other members who were going to use Dexter for the same thing, but I haven't seen anyone with the finished product.

If anyone has any pics of their finished piece that they would be willing to post I would greatly appreciate it.

Those look great wrath186. I hope you buy one so I can live vicariously through that purchase. :clap1: I vote "Yes!" (We do get to vote, right?) :headsmack:

Sure!! As long as you're willing to subsidize the purchase ;)

The ring do look nice, but it may take me a while to get the cash together.

Hi, wrath186.

I, too, had been looking at Dexter Seals for a very long time.

I had a seal made by another company here in the States, but I was rather disappointed in the "laser" engraving, it was thin and did not produce a good seal. I wanted a really nice seal, one that could last for generations. When I came across that first link to Dexter, I began to really dream about owning one.

I don't do rings, my fingers are such that their size changes almost daily with temperature changes and other things. Doesn't help that I'm allergic to many metals, and rings just don't work for me. I went looking for a desk seal, though I briefly considered a pendent deep engraved (for use as a wax seal). I finally ordered a Dexter desk seal a few months ago.

The design I chose for my seal is very custom, not one they had in their art inventory. They priced the seal according to my description. It was expensive, but it is custom and suited just to me. The dollar had gained slightly (or rather, the pound fell slightly), so it wasn't quite as expensive as it would have been a year ago, but still up there. It's been a few months, and I only just this past weekend received their artwork for approval. Honestly, if they engrave the seal with art as nice as what they sent me for approval, my money will have been well spent and invested, I think. They said it took so long to prepare, as they had to find some references for what I'd asked for and their master engraver created the detailed artwork according to my written description. I'm not going into more detail at the moment, because I don't have the seal in hand at this time, but I have every expectation the seal will be an excellent representation of the artwork and my original vision. Not over the top, but certainly not the norm, either. I also had my adopted motto, Scribere est agere, added to the seal in a ribbon/banner.

Once I've the seal in hand, maybe I can get a picture of it up here and hopefully get a picture of a wax impression made from it as well. I hope to see it soon (well, must give time for a proper hand engraving) now that I've accepted the proposed art and the engraving is underway.

Scribere est agere.

To write is to act.

Will you use it with sealing wax on your letters?

Yes, I currently have seals with the letters B, G and my Monogram wGd, which I use to seal my letters. I came across Dexter engraving and have been drooling over them ever since.

I have one of those as well. Mine does make a nice monogram, but it just looks too...two dimensional. I'm actually torn now between getting a ring done in rose gold or silver.
