Lamy Violet (cartridge)

A quick handwritten review of Lamy Violet which is only available in cartridges, to the best of my knowledge.

All part of the search for the perfect Violet/Purple/Burgundy for my wife - which has resulted in her settling on Montblanc Violet and Private Reserve Ebony Purple as her favourites.

The Montblanc Violet sample is too dark - pen was running out of ink and I don't think I did a good job of rinsing it out before I filled it with MB Violet otherwise the scan looks a touch bright on my monitor but the colours are fairly accurate.

Very nice handwriting!

I personally really like the Lamy Violet cartridge...more so than my MB Violet...but I go through dark and light phases.....

Pens I own: Waterman Hemisphere F, Pelikan Epoch M, Parker Frontier Luna Purple M, 9 Lamy Safaris, 2 Pelikan Futures, 2 Heros, Taccia Amethyst Mosaic M, Lamy 2000 B, Kaweco Sport B, Pelikan M101N Souveran

When I win the lottery: Montblanc Boheme Doue Collection - Pirourette with Lilac Stone FP

I'm rather fond of both but the Lamy, IMO, is a 'fun' ink while the MB could get away with 'business'/'serious' use. I do wish they'd put the Lamy in a bottle.

My wife and I bought a pink Lamy Safari for our oldest daughter. I bought some Lamy Violet carts to go with it. We tried out a violet cart tonight. I wouldn't use purple for myself probably, but that violet is a great color! Rich! I am really surprised Lamy doesn't offer it in a bottle but I suppose they know their sales better than I do.

Thanks for the review. I just picked up a Charcoal Safari and I think now I will have to break out my Lamy Violet cartridges and give it a trial run. Really is a shame it doesn't come in a bottle.

This is probably my favorite Lamy ink. It boggles the mind that they can put the Red (pink?) in bottles, but not this great color. Needless to say, I have several boxes of Violet cartridges

Do or do not, there is no try. . .

I emailed Lamy to see if there are any plans to offer bottled Lamy Violet. Sadly, the response was negative.

Wanting to try Lamy Violet in a better nib, I sucked out as much as possible with a needle and syringe and put three cartridges into an ink well.

I had just done the same with Lamy Blue-black.

Cartridges really don't have much ink. Even the long ones.

Mine last so long because I so seldom use the pens the inks are captive in. I prefer semi-flex nibs and none of my cartridge/converter pens are semi-flex, two are nails.

I have a wonderful swatch book that was given to me with sixty inks in it. The Paper is Oxford Optic Paper 90 g/sm by Landre`. All I did in that was write Lamy Violet next to the other violets in the booklet.

I have no poor papers to try it on, and I've not got a scanner nor did I do much work. I used Xerox paper, and two thirty year old papers, Eatons Corrasable (25% rag) Typewriter paper, and Gohrsmuehle Bankpost sheet. Those are my better papers that I have in larger than sample ammounts; on which I wrote a few lines so I could compare paper a little bit. On the rag typewriting paper it was a tad darker.

It's so odd, I swear I'm going to take pens out of rotation, and do so; three or four days later they are back.

I was also checking out cartridge Lamy Blue-black out of an ink well too.

If you have twist off nibs, you can also suck up the ink with a needle syringe and fill the pen that way, too.

I am using a very good writing Pelikan 120, with a steel Fine nib. There is nothing else free at this time. (well I could swap on an other Pelikan nib; a 90's 400 regular Medium or a 140's OB semi-flex; but I'm too lazy to go wash them out for this.

I am sure medium, broad or semi-flex would give darker shades.

Lamy Violet is very close to Pelikan Violet.

Waterman Violet is darker more towards blue violet.

Mount Blanc appears more the red Violet

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I was given a swatch book, and could compare the colors there; writing little capitol L's, my best Letter. I do not have Pelikan or MB or Waterman violets. The swatch book did.

I have this loaded in my Vista. And it's quite pretty, changes from dark to light depending on paper. My nib is a Medium. I love it so far.

Odd, that ink is still in rotation...then in a Pelikan 120 F, a joy to write with, and now in a Lamy Persona black titanium oxide cursive italic M-B.

I don't think it's not been out of rotation for as much as a week since 19 July 2010, the date of my last post on this ink.

I prefer shading inks on the whole.

But the color of Lamy Violet is so basic 'violet'.
