Aurora Hastil owners

Hi I have a Hastil with a nib that rotates. I feels secure...not loose...writes well... but I gather that the the threads could be stripped? I can't see that they are. The nib is not supposed to spin around, right?

Thanks

My Hastil developed the same problem. I wrote Aurora and they asked me to send it directly to Italy for repair. They are just back from summer holidays so it will be a little while before it returns. I believe this must be a common problem with this otherwise terrific pen.

Hi

all my Hastil rotates. This is normal and nothing is broken.

I search for all pens and informations made in Pforzheim, e.g. Sarastro, Fend

Hello. All Hastil pens I have ever seen had a rotating nib; I have some definitely brand new Hastils and their nibs rotate: in my opinion it is not a defect. I wonder why in Aurora they ask for repair!?!

Thanks!

So they are supposed to rotate. Interesting. I found this at a flea market, so was wasn't sure.

Michael, if you remember, let us know what Aurora does to the pen.

Beware, this is myth!

I was yesterday at Vecchietti's store and they told me if it rotates there is a plastic part broken inside the section and it should be changed, otherwise it could leak! :crybaby:

Here another Aurora Hastil owner with a rotating nib.

I haven't understood by now if this is a defect or a feature. :s

I paid a FP store a visit and brought this subject up.

Apparently this is no no sign of defect, according to the shop keeper I need not to worry :)

I send the Aurora pen company an e-mail stating that the nib rotates and what they would recommend.

Here is their response to my e-mail:

I don’t think that is a problem the fact that the nib section rotates but if you want to be sure of that you should send the pen to our Repair Office or if existing to our distributor in your country.

So they don't think there is something wrong with the rotating nib of the pen.

The pen writes perfectly fine.

They do suggest however to send it to repair office in case of doubt.

It's up to the owners of the Aurora Hastil pen I guess.

I recently bought a Hastil from fountain pen hospital. It persistently leaked ink into the cap, with ink on the section and of course on my hands. It was sold as is with a cap that rotated when closed, though it stayed securely on. After a few days of use, when I removed the cap, the nib and feed stayed in the cap, with the section securely on the pen body. After retieving it, it appears that the nib and feed seem to screw on to the section, and that the rotating cap must have unscrewed it. I have had no further problems ( fingers crossed) since being careful not to rotate the cap in an "unscrewing" counterclockwise rotation.

Just to give my humble contribution now that I bumped into this interesting thread about a beautiful pen...

I just checked the 4 Hastils that I have, all of them new or in impeccable conditions and none has a loose rotating nib/section.

As vonderlasa said, the nib and feed seem to screw into the section but I never tried turning in the opposite direction.

Most importantly, I clearly remember having one in my school days that rotated quite loosely as it had a bit scratchy EF nib that I would often play with cleaning on pages margins from the usual paper/ink pulp excesses.

I had it for years, used it and cared for just as a school kid would (i think you may get the general picture - dust, sweat, blood & tears and so on), and it never leaked a single drop of ink.

I have a similar problem and in my case I can tell the nib/section interface is broken (a plastic part of the section snapped off). I've been looking for replacement nib/section combos and saw this thread. I'm thinking that if the section doesn't just pop out of the barrel you may be good. Sadly, I'm not that lucky- send thoughts, prayers, and any additional nib/section combos you're not using my way. :crybaby:

I do have a Hastil nib/section combo which I could give away. It came with the pen, which I received as a gift some 30 years ago; it is Medium I guess, steel nib, and I changed it for a new EF nib about three years ago. It remained almost unused for years, since I simply cannot write with a Medium nib. Interested, heresjohnny?
