QUOTE (skipwilliams @ Apr 13 2007, 09:26 PM)

I just found what was described as a "Lilac" AL-Star pen in Thailand.....it's on its way to me now.

I'm crossing my fingers that it's actually purple, and not blue.

I have seen a lilac one in a pen shop, maybe Bob Slate in Boston or somewhere in NYC... Don't remember where, sorry, but I can confirm that they do exist in what can be described as "lilac" -- a light purple. On the pen I saw, the clip was also a color, rather than plain black or steel.

Just today purchased the Safari White fountain pen and matching ballpen. pen store in Sydney and . In my opinion the best looking Safari ever in this colour combination, Chrome, white and grey. I have filled my medium nib pen with DIAMINE TURQUOISE INK AND IT'S AN ABSOLUTE DREAM. GREAT PEN, GREAT INK COLUR, SMOOTH NIB! WHAT MORE COULD ONE ASK FOR! Has anyone here yet bought one of these?

James at Pear Tree Pens has the black and white Safaris. Don't know about the lilac one. Has anyone actually seen it? The pics of the graphite Al-Star sometimes have a slight lilac cast to them, but the pen in real life is just light gray.

I would love a real-life ;) lilac one!

Thanks for the heads up on the availability.

The lilac Al-Star is quite different from the graphite. However it is either almost identical or identical to the Al-Star blue. It's hard to tell - I'm going to need a very good light to see if there is a difference. Skip, do you see a difference?

Edit: Now I'm confused. I went to Swisher.com and the graphite he shows sure does look like my "lilac". The blue on his site does not look like the one I though was blue. I think I have two graphite Al-Stars - one from a pen show (I thought it was blue), and the "lilac" one I just purchased. Sigh.

Back from Lamy site the one in Germany. Nothing about a lilac Al Star but they also do not have anything about the light blue with red clip Safari.

Soooo I went to Lamy USA site and they do not have anything about the Lilac Al Star.

They have something about a new ballpoint.

Elaine,........A lavender Lamy.....I want one...please post if you figure out where you saw it. Also are the fine nibs or EF nibs pretty free flowing and not scatchy on the Safaris?

Thanks,

Melinda

The light blue/red was sold as a limited edition. That may be why it is not listed.

For some misguided reason I bought two of the blue/reds and stored one untouched.

If it exists, I wonder if the lilac might be an LE also.

Bill that was a brilliant idea. Now we will all be running for the Lamy LEs!

Cheaper than other brands! :ltcapd:

Bill let out a dirty little secret I was planning to announce - The Pear Tree Pen Company will soon begin selling what it calls Lamy Safari "Separates" - so you can mix and match your favorite caps, barrels and sections, without having to buy multiple pens!

Stay tuned!

I think I found a pic of the lilac Al-Star:

http://www.de.ufpe.br/~cribari/lamy_al_star.jpg

(stolen somewhere on the net)

I've seen the pen in action, although only from some distance. The lilac is very subtle, similar to the blue Al-Star the color doesn't scream at you. But you can definitely tell it is lilac.

I don't know if its a LE, maybe the Lamy HP is just slow with updates (again). OTOH there have already been some Al-Star LEs...

My current theory on the lilac is that it is actually the graphite. dinky, I have one that I bought from eBay. The photo antigone posted is a little more purple than the actual pen which definitely has a lilac hue, but not as pronounced as that.

I find the fine and extra fine to be very smooth and pleasant to write with.

I just received my "lilac" AL-Star, and it is definitely the silverblue. In fact the model number, 027, on the lamy site for the silverblue is what is marked on the blisterpak that my "lilac" pen is in.

I don't think a lilac model exists.

Best regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Just bought a black Safari from The Pen Shop in Newcastle upon Tyne. They're lovely in there. They switched the medium nib for a fine one (which is anodized rather than silver stainless steel) and it looks good. Grabbed a converter at the same time, and had it full of Noodler's bulletproof black as Helen and I sat drinking tea in the nearby Pret.

This is now my other pen - the one that isn't an irreplaceable gold family heirloom, and which I can take out to work etc. without fear.

The pen itself writes as well as my gold pen (suspected to be a Parker 17) although it's much bulkier, and I don't think I'll be writing with it posted. It's shiny, and even though the Noodler's ink creeps over the nib, the nib is black (which isn't standard) and it's hard to see.

All in all, it's lovely.

I will have these new colors on my site last week of may or sooner if they arrive. You won't find a lower price than mine and if you do I will throw in the converter for free at: www.isellpens.com .
