Sneak preview of some Conid pens

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Attached a few "sneak preview" pictures from the first pens made by Conid.

One is a blue marbled celluloid, second on is a red swirled acrylic version.

In acrylic there is also a swirled yellow (amber like) & swirled grey version.

In HR there is a solid black& red/black striped version

I assisted in assembling the first pens yesterday at their plant.

Note the new Conid clip &the captop logo insert were not yet ready & the nib laser engraving is not optimal yet ( 18K bock screw-in nib unit )

The sleek version will be made by the end of the month

Price calculation is not done yet, Iexpect CONID will specify their prices shortly on the board

Hope you like them !

Regards, Francis

Francis, these things keep getting more and more enticing every time you post pictures! :)

Is that a Tibaldi-esque celluloid you're using for the blue ones? Seems like I might have seen a Tibaldi that looked like that. Gorgeous, any way you slice it.

Hello Francis,

could you please post the dimensions and weight of the pen? And perhaps a comparison picture with other well known pens like Pelikan too? I am specially interested on the measurements of the pen without the cap.

Is it possible to take the nib assembly out to clean the pen (like a Pelikan)?

Regards,

Nelson

Hi Nelson,

The pens are the approximate size of a Montblanc 146 & Pelikan 800

Their respective(approximate!) weight compare as follows :

Capped :Conid pen: 36 grams, MB 146: 30 grams, Pelikan 800 : 32 grams

Uncapped (& not posted) : Conid pen 23 grams, MB146: 22 grams, Pelikan 800: 22 grams

Note all metal parts of the Conid pen are solid polished SS 316, which is the reason why the capped weight is slightly higher.

The nibs are 18K screw-in Bock nib assemblies, which can easily by removed/replaced.

I'm desperate to know prices for these.

Also, what will the availability for these be like?

I'd love to get my mitts on the blue celluloid and a black HR, but I've a sneaking suspicion that even one will need me to save for a bit...

Attached 2 picture-links of 2 new acrylic versions of CONID pens, one gold & one Gray marbled.

Note the pens are now equipped with the "final" clip design.

The clips , made from SS 316, feature the "stylized" CONID logo, cut trough the clip wall.

Several clip versions were evaluated, and this one finally was selected.

I hope this clip also appeals to you !

Sorry or the delay, but the final cost of the pen will be determined shortly, now the latest element was defined.

Very beautiful, Francis! I like the new clip design.

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

Very nice! The enw design looks great!

Great to see them in different materials.

Will you bring those to the Tilburg pen show?

Cheers

PS: Where does the the brand's name Conid derive from?

Hello Francis

do you have a website that shows all the pen production you have presently ?

Sorry, no website for the time being, The CONID website is actually under construction.

Their final goal is creating a website which allows the buyer to assemble and see the pen of their choice : material,

streamline or flat top, standard or sleek, plunger of pump filler, and clip of their choice.

A rather ambitious set-up, which my take some time I suppose.

Hello Francis,

it certainly sounds like an ambitious set-up - but I would say it is way to go!

And what about nib choices? Will you offer customized nibs such as stubs, italics, obliques, and perhaps even flexible ones? It would certainly be a bonus in my eyes...

By the way, the pen looks better and better every time you post new pictures!

Hi Zed,

As for the nibs choice, its probably a little early: we have to order at least 200 nibs of each size at BOCK.

Since 18K nibs are rather expensive, CONID restricted the first series to F & M nibs, this implies we could also make OM nibs.

Alternatively we will (most probably) offer sections which accept Pelikan 800 screw in nib units, so the buyer him or herself can buy & install the nib unit of their choice.

Note Pelikan was rather reluctant on CONID's request to sell & allow usage of Pelikan nibs on CONID pens.

Nice to hear you find the design evolution appealing, finally this is what we aimed for !
