My FIrst Estie Sack Replacement

SCW80

Recommended Posts

Well, I got a nice looking Copper Estie J off the bay a while back. I got it and it needed a new sack... it just needed a sak, it didn't have one. Anyway, I ordered a new sack for it and it arrived today. I'll be resacking it this evening. I've got a 2556 nib that I'm going to put on it and give to my mom for christmas. She likes very fine to fine nibs and this one is on the very fine end of things.

To Get At Some Point: Aurora 88/88k/88p (chrome cap), Omas Milord (old style), Omas Paragon (old style), Sheaffer Balance (green striated)

Pocket Watch for Sale or Trade: 1889 or 1898 Eureka Watch Co. Silver or silver plate, lever-set mechanical Longines movement

Be careful. Esties like getting sacked....

Before you know it, you will have more Esties than you can count.

I got it done last night. It was pretty easy. I think that I could have done a little better job if I'd bought a set of scak spreaders, but it came out alright and work fine.

I always have a hard time with the sections.

I'm doing it by hand, and it takes awhile to get them off the barrel.

Any advice?

A good soaking (without getting the J-Bar wet) and then the section pliers. I bought a pair about a year ago and wondered why it took me so long. Another option is to get some of that non slip rubber padding that you put under cutting boards. It helps grip things a little better.

Congratulations, SCW80, on your sac replacement. You can make a sac spreader out of coat hanger wire. I bought a $5 sac spreader and realized that's exactly the way mine was built.

I didn't have any trouble with the section. It was not very tight.

Robert, thanks for the heads up on those sack spreaders.
