Apologies for the thread hijack, but I'll have mine in matte black please. I love using my Charcoal Safari at work, since I can work discreetly. The most attention my pen ever got was from a young lady who was fascinated with the dark grey nib. Disguised as a stealth device, the Charcoal Safari just works. Plus, I could never get to like the combination of shiny steel clips or the 'in your face colours' - yes, I am a very 'colourless' person! As a user, this pen will see considerable mileage in the years to come.

Regards,

Rahul

oh...my....god!

*topples over*

PS: The Savanna green does look like it means business. Very tempting, I must admit. Good show!

Regards,

Rahul G

PPS: Fine, now that I'm off the meds, I admit it. I love the pink Safari too, that's right, you heard it - I'm a 25 year old man and I love that darned pink Safari! (psst: even though I hate the colour otherwise)

This does not leave this forum, mmkay?

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the difference between a LAMY Safari and a LAMY Vista?

Isn't the Vista just a Safari in clear plastic instead of colored ABS, making the Vista a Safari Demonstrator basically, or am I way off base here?

I know not much about LAMYs, have only seen the pictures and the scpecs seem to read that both pens are the exactly the same size dimensionally, look the same too.

The clips I've read for the Safari pens are made of colored brass, the Vista looks to me like possibly a polished stainless steel, is that correct or is the Vista just a chrome plated brass clip as well?

For some odd reason Swisher sells the Safari for the same price regardless of the nib chosen, while they sell the Vista at the same price as the Safari only with standard [EF/F/M/B] nibs.

Charging an extra $6 for an Italic or Oblique as a Vista "option" also seems odd to me, when the nibs can be had separately for @ $11 or you can choose any style for the same price with the Safari.

I also see they're lsited as "Converter Sold Separately", so do they at least come with a starter ink cartridge, or are they pens only in either case?

I need to get a LAMY converter for an abc pen to send to my nephew, was looking over the pens while there and for $5 for just a converter would have been nice to get one with a pen purchase and just take the converter out and put it on the abc pen.

Doesn't make much sense to pay $5 for a converter, then have to pay an additional $5.75 just to have it shipped, totaling $10.75 for just the LZ24 converter shipped to my door.

Thought if I combined the converter with another purchase, then paid the same for shipping, it would make a lot more sense.

Sorry for the thread hijack, seeing all these cool pens just got the LAMY gears in my head spinning wildly out of control and the questions began popping up.

Thanks for sharing this collection, as I had no idea so many colors were out there, the NOS Savanna green is especially nice looking IMO as it's not as bright as some others but still has nice color to it, semi-stealthy!

Yes, the Vista is the Safari made in clear plastic, with a metal inner cap and with that funny and shiny logo, the clip is the same brass wire used for the recent ones (White LE, Glossy Black, Lime, Orange, Pink).

For some odd reason Swisher sells the Safari for the same price regardless of the nib chosen, while they sell the Vista at the same price as the Safari only with standard [EF/F/M/B] nibs.

That's strange, I think this must be a distributor/seller policy. Here in Italy if you purchase the pen from a Lamy official seller you have the option to choose the nib you want. Safaris are sold even in large stationery store and bookstore, but in this case you'll live with a M nib.

I also see they're lsited as "Converter Sold Separately", so do they at least come with a starter ink cartridge, or are they pens only in either case?

You are right, converters are not included. But each Safari is sold with a standard Lamy cart. That's why you'll see this little cardboard spacer between the section and the barrel, is to avoid to accidentally insert the cart. However sometimes there are displays in this bookstore where all the cart are inserted (I guess this is done by some student not used to a FP...)

No problem Inka, that was a nice chat. Lamy are reliable and funny pens to use and collect. I am waiting for a second Savanna that I purchased on ebay. It need some clean and TLC but then I'll have a Savanna "user". It's a very nice color indeed.

...No problem Inka, that was a nice chat. ...Ciao

Thank you for the patience, the understanding, and the great feedback.

I have learned more about these LAMY pens in a single post than all the posts I've read in several months time.

Knowing that they do come with at least one starter cartridge is in itself a huge bonus to me, since I prefer refilling a cartridge with a syringe to using a converter most times, they usually hold a bit more ink too.

Now I feel I can get myself the Vista, buy the converter for my 7-year-old nephew as he can benefit from the converter system with bottled "invisible" and black inks I'll be shipping him with the abc pen, I'll use the Vista and cartridge myself.

Questions answered, problem solved, sounds like a working plan to me, well worth the shipping cost now too.

There is also a Lamy Joy with pink clip and pink highlight on the body where the red usually is.

I saw it on the website of a UK pens seller.

I also saw the new dark purple/plum All Star.

If I get it, I might get the dark blue and the strawberry pink as well.

I have the green and blue metallic, red, clear demonstrator and the new pink. All EF. I didn't like this pen when I first saw it, but for the price I thought I'd try it for an everyday pen. Now I love them. This and the VP are my all time favorites. I love the pictures. What a beautiful rainbow!

Nice collection <img src="https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Do you use them all?

Well, no, or at least not at one time ;-)!

The only one I will not touch is the stickered Savannah (I got a beaten one this month from ebay - one that I still have to photograph - for the purpose of using it). All the others are writers but so far I only wrote with half of them...

Please excuse the poor picture, but here is my mostly complete collection. I'd say this is complete, less the truly exotic ones.

<img src="http://www.gergyor.com/images/lamy-safaris-jan09.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Not sure where my black textured pen got to. It isn't in the picture.

I believe I lack:

- Safari demo

- Itoya AL star

- "Bastian Schweinsteiger" Al star

- At least one or two "finish" variations (gloss vs matte)

Best Regards, greg

Hi, Greg,

Why a few of them have a golden ring in the middle? Is it an old model?

Hi, Greg,

I think what you're referring to is the cardboard ring/washer that sits between the section and the barrel before the pen is initially used. This keeps the section from closing against the barrel all the way and piercing the cartridge inside.

Regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.
