Tryphon Ink Additives

Until recently, we shipped our ink additives without a printed instructions sheet. No longer: all shipments are accompanied by a brief description of the additives and their use. For those who bought our additives in the past, we are posting here the text of the instruction sheet.

Thanks!

TRYPHON INKSAFE

InkSafe can be used for various purposes:

1. to increase ink flow, add one or two drops (no more) to a full bottle of ink. If you need to add the product to a cartridge or a full converter, dip a needle into the InkSafe and then dip it into the cartridge. A little bit of the product goes a long way. If you find that the ink feathers on the paper, you have used too much InkSafe.

2. To prevent the onset of "gunk" due to bacterial growth, add one drop of InkSafe into a bottle of ink. Stir well.

3. To remove any residue of manufacturing oils from a converter, add a few drops of InkSafe to a small amount of water and flush the converter repeatedly by filling and emptying it with the InkSafe solution.

Do NOT use InkSafe in conjunction with Tryphon SterilInk.

Do not ingest. Do not allow InkSafe to get in contact with the eyes.

Tryphon Enterprises assume no liabilities for any injuries or damages caused by improper use of any of the products offered for sale. Always exercise caution when using tools and chemicals.

TRYPHON STERILINK

SterilInk is a strong anti-bacterial and fungicide ink additive.

1.To prevent the onset of "gunk" due to bacterial or fungal growth, add one drop of SterilInk into a bottle of ink. Stir well.

2.To disinfect ink that is already contaminated, first strain the ink with a paper filter and discard the solid contaminants. Add two or three drops of SterilInk in each bottle of contaminated ink. Stir thoroughly.

Do NOT use SterilInk in conjunction with the Tryphon InkSafe.

Do not ingest. Do not allow SterilInk to get in contact with the eyes.

Tryphon Enterprises assume no liabilities for any injuries or damages caused by improper use of any of the products offered for sale. Always exercise caution when using tools and chemicals.

Hi Giovanni,

Thanks for the explaining the difference between the two products.

I'm going to ask for info on two of your other products. At the same time I got Ink Safe & Pen Wax, I also ordered the liquid product with the UV protectant. Is what you list as Pen Cleaner-Protectant now called Pen Shine? (This is what I received.)

I noticed that you also have a Pen Polish listed...But there's nothing called Pen Shine that I can find on the list!

TIA for any clarification!

Best regards, Ann

Pen Shine is the label we place on the cleaner-protectant. Sorry for the confusion!

These are the instructions we now ship with our polishing products:

Tryphon Pen Polishing Products

1. Scratch Remover (Light Blue)

This product will remove scratches from most plastics. It was specially formulated for the restoration of aircraft canopies and its action is very gradual. Start by applying a small quantity to the scratched area. Wait a few seconds until the scratch remover has taken a soft paste texture and buff the area with a soft cloth. Repeat as required and buff with a flannel or, for best results, a microfiber

cloth. Use also to renew the surface of oxydized hard rubber pens.

Do not use on plated metal surfaces.

2. Pen Polish (Light Brown)

This polish will restore plastic pens (hard rubber, celluloid, acrylic and thermoplastic) to a wonderful glossy and shiny surface. Apply a small quantity to the whole pen (barrel and cap). Wait a few seconds until the polish takes on a slightly matte appearance and then polish slowly and carefully with a soft, clean cloth. Repeat as necessary. After the last polishing operation, buff lightly with a clean flannel cloth or, for best results, with a microfiber cloth. Enjoy the superb results afforded by this remarkable product. Do not use on lightly plated metal surfaces. The Pen polish can be used with superb results on heavily-chromed, platinum, sterling silver, gold and gold filled metal parts.

3. Pen Cleaner/Protectant (a.k.a. Pen Shine) (Light Green)

This product has been formulated to safely clean plastic pens.

It will remove surface stains and leave the surface with a natural look. It does not accrete with repeated applications.

It can be used to great effect on metal surfaces and restores gold plated parts to a very natural sheen. It also provides limited protection against UV radiation.

  • 8 years later...

Can one still get these Ink additives anywhere? I really wanted to buy them a few years ago but always forgot to place an order and now they seem to be out of business?

Wish list: Aurora Optima

I was given a full line of Tryphon pen products from Ink safe to Steril ink and the polishes, etc.

Apparently the original owner bought too much and this just sat in a cabinet untouched with other pen stuff. Is it still good?

I asked him but he said that he unfortunately does not have the time anymore to keep up the shop unfortunately. Are there any alternatives?

There are at least a couple pen repair people on here who sell pen repair products. I ended up trying some of the polish on a gold pen and it seemed to do ok.

I tried some of the scratch remover on a small section of a hard rubber pen with a sterling silver filigree overlay since the instructions say it is good for oxydized hard rubber. It seemed to start bringing the black back BUT only in the center of the open filigree spot, not close to the edges. So, I have one filigreed spot with a nice black area right in the center surrounded by still oxydized brown. Not a product issue but my own issue of how to get along the edges better, lol.

Yes but it depends on what you're looking for, for ink sterilization check out the 4% phenol solution from Natural Pigments ( http://www.naturalpigments.com/phenol.html ), instructions are at https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/171278-biocide-shootout-tests/page-2?do=findComment&comment=2105446

I also use Kodak PhotoFlo as a sufactant to increase ink flow (other people like pure food-grade glycerine), Amazon and eBay both sell the PhotoFlo and there's a competing product from Illford (I think that's the name) that is about the same. For pen polishing (plastics and metal) I like the Sunshine jewelry cloths.

Not sure i would use phenol in ink, can be rather corrosive.

Is that the only other alternative to prevent or remove musty smells/mold growth in ink? I've just received some unopened vintage bottle of Mont Blanc inks. THe boxes clearly got wet and moldy, but the inks seem free of particulates, but they do seem to have absorbed the musty smell. I'd love to be able to use these inks, but I'm leery with the smell....

I've added phenol to my inks without corrosive problems. Don't add much, just a few drops. You can also add Organic Studios Flo+ it has flo helper and anti-microbial something.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
