Thanks!

I bought the lamp today at an antiques warehouse. It's not an antique itself, but it is a reproduction of one, and that suits my purposes fine. I bought a lightbulb for it at the local hardware shop and slotted it in, placed it on my desk and flipped it on.

I think I like this lamp much better than my previous one (which I relocated to another place in my room).

This lamp gives a softer, and more controlled light. The other lamp was like a search-and-rescue spotlamp which was just BLINDINGLY bright. And also EXTREMELY hot (the number of times I've burnt my fingers turning it off, I can't tell you!) This one is much better.

Here's another shot, showing things off a bit better:

Fabulous picture Shangas. Love the lamp and it really suits your setup there. I can fully understand why you wanted one.

Here's my workstation. Note, I used to be a professional gamer back in high school, so I had three 27'' monitors set up. Later, I retired from that to pursue more philanthropic goals in my life, and that ended up involving giving away my third monitor and replacing the space with a few notebooks and my printer.

I have a 675 ft2 house, so I don't have room for a desk or a dining room table. The closest thing to a desk that I have is a wooden TV tray that I can fold up and put away. Right now, my laptop and two fountain pens are sitting on it. I frequently write on notebooks sitting in my lap.

Sorry to be boring, but it is a small house.

On a happy note, my living room contains a lot of bookshelves, and I have yet more in the bedroom, and some more in the basement.

I should post a photograph. The TV tray sits between the coffee table and the loveseat.

Thanks! I've wanted one of these lamps for years, but I was never able to get one. Then I saw one for sale at the antiques warehouse, and I just grabbed it. It's a real gem, and the green glass is just beautiful. There is one TEENSY chip on the very front of the shade. But you'd NEVER see it unless you went over it with a magnifying glass and a spotlight. The only reason I noticed it is because I was cleaning the glass at the time.

The brass base could do with a polish, but other than that, it's perfect.

Not sure what kind of financial situation you're in, but if you've got a few hundred to spend, you could get a L shaped couch to replace those two, and fit in a small desk in the space you'll get (left of picture). That would free up some room, maybe even make your cozy little living room feel more modern with a new fancy couch :)

Perhaps he could trade in the two old couches for one big, spanking new one?

That's what I was thinking. This is the couch I've got in my living room. I've never had a space problem, but it replaced a set up similar to his, and gave me loads of extra sitting room.

Aah. My uncle has a BIG couch setup like that, in his living-room.

It's great for sleeping on.

And all up, it could probably seat six or eight people.

Home is significantly different. I'll try and add those later ;)

I would like a new couch and I have the money, but I have other financial priorities at the moment. I want to put in trim (the previous owner was great at starting but not finishing projects). I also want to replace the two doors. I'm not sure about the L-shaped couch. There is a heater vent in the corner that the furniture is arranged to avoid.

But, that is a good idea if I can work it in!

My desk! Note the clutter isn't mine... It's from my roommate (the same one that spilled my entire bottle of Momiji). The inks are in that black box with the sharpies and ballpoints, and the pens that are here are...

Oh hey, I used to have a computer like that one many years back. Ended up setting it on fire because it was too slow.
