Pelikan Brilliant Red

Pelikan Brilliant Red. An ink which has a bad rep, though it really isn't as bad as all that. OK, I wouldn't write home with it (pun intended), but its uniform, fluroescent colour is definitely useful. Hey, it says "brilliant" on the tin, and the colour is definitely that! The ink is ideal for marking or editing, as you can't miss it on the page.

 

It seems pretty watery, but I believe this is mostly due to the very pale colour. It has a low saturation, but this only means a very quick drying time - it definitely has a vibrant colour despite that.

As a paper grader myself I agree. Its what I use, its a classic teacher red color.

Heh. The ink which has managed to clog, in very short time, every pen I've ever put it in. Even when those pens were in daily use. Which is quite a shame, since, even though I don't like the colour itself, it produces some very nice shades when mixed with Pelikan Black.

When I tried it, it didn't look anything like that- it actually looked orange. This went for the q-tip swab and the dip tests. I'm not a red ink sort of person, but then again what I tested wasn't red anyway. It reminded me somewhat of orange-flavored soda. I'm not sure what would cause it to actually look that red- but it really doesn't look bad in that scan.

Strange, the bottle I have is much more brilliant than your pic.

Mine is more like crimson.

Maybe its the scan.

Yes, I have to say the scan hasn't turned out brilliantly (pun intended). It is indeed much more orangey and brighter than it looks here - just like the colour that I get in word when I make a spelling mistake.

I have a bottle here, and it is old...(I paid $2.20 ) so you know it's been awhile. How long does a bottle last?

Or how long is it still safe to use with out messing up your pen?

Hi Mary,

The general rule is that if there's no sediment or cloggy things in the bottle, and it doesn't smell funny, the ink should be OK. I have been using some sixty year old Quink this week!

 

Pel Red is pretty thin stuff, so it should be OK.

These inks are very thin ... normally they don´t have any "aging problems" ...
