Can anyone compare Aurora and Stipula Italics for me?

I am using an Aurora 88 with the Italic Medium nib, and have found it to be very smooth, moderately wet and easy to use as a daily writer, but I would ALSO like something a bit more narrow on the downstroke (and am interested in the Stipula Etruria).

My question is about the sizes of the Stipula italic nibs: Has anyone got both, or have you compared the line width of the Aurora italic to that of the Stipula 0.9 or 1.1 italic?

Thank you,

I've got an Aurora with a stub nib and a Stipula with a 0.9 italic inked up right here. Side by side, I'd say that the Aurora is just a tiny bit wider than the Stipula and that the Stipula is a bit smoother. I find the Aurora to be a bit more like a true italic rather than a stub, though I was told it was a stub when I bought it.

I like them both in their own way. Overall, I love my Stipula 0.9 nib and would buy another one should the opportunity present itself.

Hi JR ....

I took some pics for your comparison. Hope it helps.

The samples are all written on Rhodia 5mm grid paper. Pad No.16. This will give you an idea of the nibwidths.

This is the Stipula Etruria Alter Ego in 0.9mm nib - overall view

If you look closely, the Aurora italic is wider than the Stipula 0.9mm. But ever so slightly.

The thin / thick nibstroke ratio on the Aurora is also more pronounced, ie the thin strokes (horizontal) are crisp and thinner than in the Stipula nib.

The Aurora Italic nib is also very sharp at the nib corners.

The Stipula is more forgiving - less sharp edged.

Bcos of this , the Aurora produces more crisp strokes than the Stipula. And the placement of the nib onto the paper needs a lil bit more care.

The Aurora writes slightly less wetter than the Etruria as you can see from the amount of ink deposited and the shading caused thereafter.

I am not sure if Aurora has stub nibs. Someone here who is more familiar with Aurora shld be able to clarify.

Consistent with my experience, I agree with what you said .... the Aurora nib is truer to an italic. The Stipula is more like a Stub.
