Interesting Eagle Pen

Johnny Appleseed

Recommended Posts

I picked up this Eagle pen in a parts lot. It has an orange-painted brass body, missing a nib, and has seen better days. These were cheap pens, usually with a brass nib, often sold as school pens. Sears sold one version of these in the 1920s for $0.23.

What I found really interesting was the sac on this one, which is orange to match the rest of the pen.

And lest you think that the sack color came from some paint rubbing onto the sac, take a look at the fresh break in this picture -

It is orange all the way through. Of course, the sac is quite hardened by now - does that make it RHR? Anyone else find old vintage pens with colored sacs?

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

Always looking for pens by Baird-North, Charles Ingersoll, and nibs marked "CHI"

I can't be for certain, but I vaguely recall seeing a similar Eagle like this yesterday at the pen show. I also thought it to be an interesting piece, but did not buy it.
