I just picked this pen up at a local auction.

Cap was stuck, had to wait to get home to soak the pen.

I just soak the pen in water in the ultrasonic cleaner and forgot about it.

This is a Warning do not let the pen sit in water too long.

This is not for the faint of heart.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f239/Jotteraddict62/001_zpsjz968ats.jpg

I removed the pen from the water and this what happen. Ouch!!!

Live and learn. I will part out what I can to complete this out set.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f239/Jotteraddict62/003_zpslz1brl5b.jpg

I will never make this mistake again leaving one of these pens in water for longer than needed.

P.S. Question: How do I remove the nose cone from the pencil?

Nose cone should be threaded onto the end of the mechanism.

Gack! That looks painful. I have one of those, and I love mine. The clip was designed like a battleship. As I learn more, I'm becoming more cautious. I have enough misfit toys in my personal pen box.

Thanks FarmBoy. I thought it was threaded.

I've had a couple of those moments with some smaller and less fragile moments. I currently have an Esterbrook trans jewel and clip I'm trying to remove from a barrel that's beyond hope. At one point, I forgot where it was. It was in the bottom of the jar of ammonia and water, and had been there for a couple days.

I also had a P21 hood that dissolved [ crumbled ] when it was soaking.

May be he was soaking it in ultrasonic cleaner. In that case 10 minuts soak should have been enough.

Thanks FarmBoy. I thought it was threaded.

After further investigation with the pencil without the nose cone I do not see any threads inside. I think these pencil models the nose cone were pressed into the tube. Will have to explore further.

Yes I believe most are pressed in and difficult to separate one from the other.

I have been successful on few occasions at best.

The makers made fountain pens to be repaired.

I do not think they gave much thought to the pencils and their possible need of repair...

To often they give me the "garrrr" moments.

jammed and not turning at all

or the opposite

twist, twist, twist, twist...twist twist awww stop twisting and work....

when they do work there is the issue of getting the lead to stay in the barrel

and not sliding right on out when one goes to write with said instrument...

I have been doing combo repairs & well, the pencils they're the cause of my grief....

I find that with the crackled celluloids have more of a tendency to crumble or disintegrate.

be certain to check them over very well if you have the opportunity.

The cracks, well they hide in the crackle....

I am dealing with a Sheaffer black and white pencil with cracking issues. :yikes:
