You must be referring to the TR journal ... Yeah , the TR paper is really something ...

I am using one of my own creations in TR paper too ...

What I like is the rendering of the FP inks - they seem to be rendered very accurately on this paper.

The shadow can be distracting, so I use a black paper underneath.

Let me know how it wears over time becos the pages are plenty at 280 and so it takes a long time to fill completely.

Meanwhile, the binding will have to withstand this 'prolonged' period of use.

The six sewing stations will help it last though.

But I am wondering how it wears , becos the paper is superthin , fragile ...and this is an exposed spine binding.

(Thicker (heavier) papers dont have this challenge.)

This is another backlog , finally completed ...

The commission called for a set of two journals....

Started here back some time ago ...
https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/28367-homemade-journal/page-47?do=findComment&comment=2886470

Along the way it developed ,
and I finally settled on this motif ...
http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/DSCF9386_zps0883336c.jpg

It was quite successful with a Midnight blue Bookcloth , but this time round , I decided to try a different bookcloth , I chose a Warm Grey from my fresh batch of GEMATEX bookcloths...
http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/DSCF9390_zps005f730c.jpg

Its an interesting bookcloth becos at certain angles , it appears to have a certain sheen to it.
In the end , it kind of looks like gunmetal.

I decided to stick with the very nice Japanese washi paper SHINWAZOME CHIYOGAMI - Maple Leaves ...
Certain parts of the pattern are raised, and feels like latex.
Really nice paper this one.
http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/DSCF9395_zps5373f355.jpg

I have come to learn to clamp my folded-in corners overnight ,
http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/DSCF9391_zpsff592d4a.jpg

The end result is fantastic !!!!
Unbelievably super flat ...
http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/DSCF9402_zpsc47535f9.jpg

As with the earlier scheme , orange stitches worked well.
But this time, after discussing with the Owner, we wondered if green would do too ...
http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/001_zps78d91759.jpg

We decided to try the green scheme...
nothing too jarring, yet blended in well, also complementing the light olive drab of the Japanese paper...
To keep colours to a minimum , we went for lime green flyleaves too ...

My 25th TR journal...

I like the spine emboss accent
http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/052_zpsd27dd6d8.jpg

Comparing with the recent Peacock Feather journal.
http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/062_zpsc5180c25.jpg

This means that the spine emboss pattern is consistent from journal to journal.
if you buy the same kind of journal design now and later, they both should match up and align perfectly ....

This is the large variant of the pair ...

Journal 181A "GEMATEX - Warm Grey - SINWAZOME CHIYOGAMI - Spine Emb / Deb"

A5 size ...

I had to translate the design of the spine accent , deboss , emboss onto a larger A5 size cover.

There is a difference - the larger journal had 4 pairs of sewing stations instead of three as in the A6 size.

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/181A%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/005_zpsabaa80fa.jpg

Trying out on the actual thing...

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/181A%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/006_zps2bc61e09.jpg

Execution ...

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/181A%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/019_zps8ef1bf9f.jpg

Emplaced ..

Kept to the same GEMATEX - Warm Grey bookcloth ...

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/181A%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/035_zpse58dffa2.jpg

I like this ...

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/181A%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/037_zpseba0a655.jpg

and

I added a little diamond recess ....

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/181A%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/040_zps72f2f497.jpg

At this stage , a few possibilities arose as to how to fill in the diamond recess ...

This one was the same Japanese paper.

Other options were to leave it empty ,

or

fill in with same material as the flyleaves ...

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2014/181%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/181A%20GEMATEX%20Warm%20Grey/050_zpsb11271f9.jpg

I decided to match the flyleaves instead,

to add that dash of colour...

This one is bookcloth but the logo is embossed.

This is another order ...

Journal 177F "Peacock Feathers" in A5 size

with

emboss / deboss on the spine , and

corner guards in bookcloth

My 29th TR journal, and my 6th A5 size TR journal.

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/030_zps26ba3abb.jpg

I was eager to try out this deboss version of the emboss ...

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/042_zps8a7c4883.jpg

Covers laid with the Peacock Feathers motif by ROSSI 1931 , Italy ..

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/003_zps29a65d23.jpg

Somehow the magenta seems very well suited ...

It worked before , and I didnt want to change the formula ...

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/005_zps5d74771b.jpg

I used the GEMATEX bookcloth - Indian Red for the corners...

They are flushed same level as the cover paper.

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/018_zps26864d61.jpg

Closer view

Nice bands ...

They are positioned such that it aligns with the junction of the bookcloth and paper cover.

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/010_zps717f213c.jpg

Now with the accent hues in view

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/017_zpsad7cabc5.jpg

I like the stitches ...

Here , they can afford to be longer to add a dash of colour to the larger expanse of Peacock motif.

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/019_zps2ff5a700.jpg

They are translucent enough to admit light into the pocket ...

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o704/tmleem4/JOURNALS/2013/177%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/177F%20A5%20Peacock%20Feathers/025_zps9fe5a590.jpg

I like the deboss pattern.

But its hard to see , becos of the printed motifs ..

( I bet its gonna be stunning with a plain bookcloth ! )

This is one of my favourite fabrics ...

Black with dragonflies...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2011%20JOURNALS/Journal%20153%20Dragonflies%20-%20Black/153C%20Dragonflies%20-%20Black/019.jpg

But there is a flaw in the fabric - there's a line (faded by harsh sunlight) somewhere horizonatlly across near the bottom edge ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2011%20JOURNALS/Journal%20153%20Dragonflies%20-%20Black/153C%20Dragonflies%20-%20Black/020.jpg

I didnt throw it away , too wasteful.

Now is a good time to revisit how to solve this problem....

I just have a feeling that there is a likely solution, its just that I can't pin it down ... yet !!!!

Any suggestions ?

My first thought is make a smaller notebook next would be a pattern that would hide the flaw maybe a series of groves running horizontally up the front.

How about making a raised edge piece so the line is disguised by the fold so the centre part would appear debossed with raised edges.

I hope that makes sense like when a picture is mounted.

Embroidery? or an emboss or deboss. Something to suggest a horizon, and the sky. Can it be painted on?
