... homemade journal ...

TMLee

Recommended Posts

I saw this beautiful wrapper (along with that poster) and bought it too. :D

What was interesting was the precise printing ...

the gold veins and wingtips of the dragonflies are very finely printed.....

and exactly where its supposed to be .... :yikes:

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2013/2013%20Journals/Journal%20176%20Agrion%20and%20Libellule/DSCF1967.jpg

what was even more interesting was that it was printed on laid paper ...

here this pic taken backlit ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2013/2013%20Journals/Journal%20176%20Agrion%20and%20Libellule/DSCF1979.jpg

The dragonflies were green and brown with gold trims,

the paper was cream in colour...
I felt it was too beautiful to not do a corner accent.

and I thought a magenta would be a nice accent colour....

pasted the covers as usual ..

here is the back (wrong side) ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2013/2013%20Journals/Journal%20176%20Agrion%20and%20Libellule/DSCF1978.jpg

the bookcloth corner accents ...

GEMATEX bookcloth "Indian Red" ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2013/2013%20Journals/Journal%20176%20Agrion%20and%20Libellule/DSCF1966.jpg

as usual, I clamped hard for a few hours ...

and as often reported, the end result is really fantastic , its really flat ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2013/2013%20Journals/Journal%20176%20Agrion%20and%20Libellule/DSCF1976.jpg

Frontside ...

The paper was thin, i reckon only about 100g

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2013/2013%20Journals/Journal%20176%20Agrion%20and%20Libellule/DSCF1975.jpg

The thin paper , plus its beautiful prints , meant one thing - a golden opportunity to craft co-ordinated hinges ... :D

The paper was thin enough to let light pass thru ...

I used matching magenta flyleaves ...

The journal completed ....

Journal 176 " Agrion and Libellule" A5 size ...

Front

pictured with my first hand-turned FP called 'The Scribe" made by FPNer 'Tortoise" here ...

.... complete with burgundy finials too ... :D

(for all these photos, I upped the exposure to +2/3 stops to render the magenta bookcloth accurately becos the whiteness of the paper was darkening everything else )

I chose a magenta accent colour to bring a reffeshing look to the journal ..

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2013/2013%20Journals/Journal%20176%20Agrion%20and%20Libellule/DSCF1995.jpg

Kept the colours to a minimum ...

Only magenta was used as the accent ...

So I used deep red stitches ...

Paper is

MELLOTEX Natural White , 100g , smooth

7 Signatures , 4 Folios each , total 112pages

I decided to make this journal slightly slimmer, using lighter paper.

Still works....

slight shadow

but not so bad that it cant be used.

One way round it, is to place a black piece of paper underneath and it will mask away the shadow completely...

(of course here the pic is backlit - which is worse than it actually is)

Just wanted to say that I ordered a couple journals from TMLee, and it was a great experience working with him, and the journals were awesome.

That's a gorgeous set! And love the pen!

Thanks :)

I will add that I have several of TMLee's journals...possibly as many as 8 including these if you count the individual volumes...They are just wonderful. I love the paper he uses and they are well crafted. I am using an Escher covered one now as a Travel Journal and a small Tomoe river journal as an ink test journal!

While they are very special, they are really meant to be used!
