Webster's Enidama Blue-Black (Diluted)

Here are my test sheets for Webster's Enidama Blue-Black.

If this ink is supposed to be blue-black, then I strongly urge that it NOT be diluted. Following Amber's instructions, I did a 1-1 dilution with distilled water, and, as you can see, what I got is a sort of teal blue (except for the fine-point). I'm going to leave it open and let it evaporate back down to its original concentration and then write another test.

Interesting! The swab looks very light and not at all like a blue-black. I wonder what a 75% concentration would look like.

I believe Amber said that the Enidama wouldn't even fully go into solution at the 100% concentration so I'm wondering if it would be a problem.

Mine was in solution at the concentration in which I received it.

I actually just did the mix and it comes out a tad bit light for my tastes. I will evaporate the water.

Wow, these look great, thank you!

I had a dang time mixing, maybe the vials were mixed up enough the powder actually went into the solution.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

  • 3 weeks later...

When mine came in there was still bits of powder so I diluted it 1:1 with distilled water. Unfortunately it then was just too thin to be of use. So I evaporated it back down so it's roughly 2 parts ink, 1 part water. Loaded into a Noodlers Ahab which is nice and wet, it makes a nice interesting ink to use. A bit slow to dry, but it can be managed if you PAY ATTENTION, Ted. I quite like it.

I transferred it into a shorter vial so I could get the pen into the ink. And when I rinsed the old vial, it seems there may have still been some powder that hadn't dissolved because there were those streaks one sees when some powder gets into a sink.

Even though I boiled the water when I mixed, it did not mix well. I suspect that this is one that I should mix and then filter and then mix again and filter again.

I finally got my sample evap'ed down to where I want it, and it's still unsatisfactory. I'm not even going to bother doing new sheets. Going on to my next sample -- when I get caught up on my other work :P

Yes.

Sorry people.

I really loved the colour, but ended up hating the ink.

I couldn't make the ink work. Even after adding glycerin as recommended, the ink became bitty and gritty.

No problem. There've been so many good inks come out of this program, that finding one or two don't-likes doesn't even come close to making a sour taste in my mouth.

Like others have said, the color was really neat, but I too had sediment, Tried to get it to work in an FP and the result was too light. Not sure what I did with my evaluation sheet.

But I did try the ink with a dip pen and it seems to be like ink. And the full concentration looked quite good. Certainly no clogging issues with a dip pen. :)

Here is the pic of my dip pen scribblings:

Looks like the scan made it a pic darker than it should be, so mentally dial it back a bit. Think I'll just have to take iPhone photos in the future. They might have some hope of being close to what things look like.

Agreed - and I am a big blue black guy. Liked the Thistle much better. (Both #1 & #2) It was to much to the black side for me.
