Parker 51 Collector Is Stuck, How To Remove?

As the title says the collector is stuck inside the parker 51 hood (well I assume it is a parker 51, it was a desk set). Now from the videos I have wstched on parker 51 removals the collector, feed and nib all just slide off the hood with ease, and with the one I have restored before that was the case.

Two possibilities. One is dried ink, in which case you want to soak it or run it through an ultrasonic.

Second - if this is one of the later 51s (and it looks like it may be) with coarse threads and the awful plastic that they used instead of Lucite, the hood may have shrunk. I've seen cases where it's so bad that the plastic has formed itself around the collector and had to be cut off to be replaced. Inside you could see the shape of the collector in the inside wall.

The end of your hood is much shorter than it should be. If soaking doesn't work, it might be worth replacing the hood. In which case cutting it off is an option. Use a razor saw and cut along the length on the underside..

Yeh I decided I would cut it off after numerous soakings and you are quite right about it forming around the collecter, I was wondering why in the hell parker would have it formed around the collector like that. I have given the guy at parker 51 an email to ask if he has a hood that would fit. Cheers for the help mate :).

Looks like a mk3, similar to mine. Well mine was worse.

I have one that the hood shrank so bad on it that it formed to the collector. And as Ron said, I had to cut the hood off the pen...VERY CAREFULLY.

The nib is (or I should say was) sticking out way too much as compared to my P51s, or P21s for that matter. That would have been my first clue for the shrinkage assuming the hood was not chipped.
