Acrylic Neponset

The John Mung is supposed to be red. I don't have a John Mung Konrad (yet) to give a real-eye view on that, unfortunately. Here's a pretty nice picture of a J.M. Konrad, looking all pearlescent and shimmery, and decidedly red-veined, though!

Back on topic, I'm thinking I'll get a Bengal Tiger Neponset. I've been wanting an orange pen lately, so why not. :D

TeaHive! GO GO GO! They're in-stock at Anderson Pens (no affiliation)! I snagged a Forbidden City.

B-Tiger is gone. John Mung still out there.

I actually snagged a Bengal Tiger on eBay last night. The listing was put up not ten minutes before I randomly decided to search for Neponsets. I clicked on that faster than any listing I've ever clicked upon before, with my heart on the back of my tongue. Now it's the wait... But I'm happy to do so! Whoot!

TeaHive, what will you first ink up your Bengal Tiger with!? If I had to guess, I'd say Noodler's Apache Sunset, but maybe that's too assuming.

Black Swan in English Roses! Haha, not at all like Apache Sunset. I plan on using it as a drawing pen, so eventually it will be a waterproof black or dark grey.

How about you?! Red or purple ink for that Forbidden City?! (Also making assumptions over here. :D )

:yikes:

Tracking says mine arrives Monday. Usually Mondays suck for me, but not this Monday.

Don't pre-poo poo the Neponset. C'mon now.

I received my Forbidden City Neponset today. First impressions: definitely needed some tweaking - my nib was jammed pretty good into the pen and if you take it out just a bit so you can fully see where the nib has the imprinting of Ink Co. then I find it provides better flexibility w/ line variation.

After adjusting the nib and feed, the ink flow appears pretty good and I can get some crazy amounts of ink on the page. Pretty fun, albeit a bit scratchy. Being a music nib that is tipped as opposed to a stub style (like the Franklin Christoph is) proves challenging to make smooth in my opinion. Aligning all 3 tines so they're consistent might take a bit more work.

It seems as big around as the Ahab, but it's definitely longer. I wish it had more girth and less length. I am also somewhat regretting my color choice as the pearlescent in the pen makes it appear pink at certain angles. These gripes are only me being picky though. It's a nice pen and worth the $75.

Mine works pretty well, but the feed could use a bit of hacking to get the flow just right. Thankfully, mine is honey-smooth. And holy shading with the wet writing!

I was disappointed to find out that the converters inside are glued in... It smells like super glue. So I might be trading the nib and feed with my Ahab Truk Lagoon, so I can convert it into an eyedropper for drawing. The Neponset will get the Ahab feed and a Goulet 1.1mm stub nib, and I will use it for writing with J. Herbin Stormy Grey mixed with J. Herbin Bleu Ocean (though I still have to buy a bottle of the latter.) It'll be my "Starry Night" pen, hah!

I like the longer length, mostly because I don't find it to be all that different than the Ahabs or Konrads. But I, too, wish it was a chubbier pen.

Smooooothed my Neponset's nib out nicely. Buttery now and is laying thick shaded lines of raspberry red ink all over Rhodia tonight.

Converter is glued in? Huh. I unscrewed mine just fine.

If it was glued in..Can you remove it without damage ??

Someone else suggested using a hair dryer to blow on the threads, applying heat like that needed to open up some vintage pens that are glued with shellac. I don't know what kind of glue was used in my or any one else's Neponset, though. It might or might not work. Whenever I get mine emptied of ink, I'm going to try the hair dryer trick, and post results here.

TeaHive, I just got mine apart! I emptied it and looked at the innards with a loupe, and could see that it was indeed threaded at the section/converter end, so should unscrew. I heated it for just a little while--not even a minute--and I was able to unscrew the converter just like on an Ahab. It appears that it was assembled without silicone grease, which might be the reason the threads are sticking. It's not glued!

Glad to hear yours came apart! I'll definitely try the heat trick when mine is emptied. But mine looks like it has little air bubbles inside the threaded area. o_o Giving the appearance of glue (alongside the aforementioned stink). Hopefully it's just an optical illusion!
