Cigar - Sailor Pen & Message

Sailor makes stunning inks. It's a pity so many of them aren't easily obtainable outside of Japan and they're rather expensive to order.

I've received Cigar sample from awesomly awesome Cyber6. I must say this ink is really, really cool. I have weakness for such hues. Also the ink is surprising especially if you'll take a look at chromatography. Incredible stuff.

I used word green in the review but greenish sepia would be more accurate maybe? I have hard time defining this color.

Take a look and if, by chance, you know cheaper version of this ink, let me know

It's not really similar. To my taste Cigar is more complex and interesting. I've run out of Racing Green sample so I won't compare them.

I'm so glad to see your review! Saskia_madding told me how much Cigar looked like Sailor Rikyu-Cha (I have been looking for a long time now for a replacement for that ink) and I'm not disappointed! I can't wait to try it myself...

 

Also, what is chromatography? I understand what the word means, but how does it work? And what (in your opinion) does that tell us about an ink?

It is a MUST have.... I bought two Cigars and gave one to my sweetheart.. which I know he enjoys immensely. This is one of those inks.. I wouldn't mind a second bottle. It is just too differnt-special-amazing-unique.. :wub:

I have two bottles, and I may eventually get four. This stuff is insane. It goes down green, drys to green-red-yellow-sepia, and pools to a nice red-brown. It is all colors. It is, the omni-shade.

@sobalamandra - basically chromatography allows us to separate various components of a mixture (it shows the different pigments present in a substance). When you put the top 2 mm of the kitchen towel with dry drops of ink on it into the glass of water, the solvent is allowed to flow up the paper strip via capillary action. As the solvent migrates, so do the various components of the mixture, but they do so at different rates, depending on their solubility in the solvent and their affinity for the paper.

 

It won't tell us much about the ink behaviour, but it looks really cool sometimes and shows how complex some inks are.

one day... I may finally get a swig of this stuff... if my local enabler is capable of purchasing this elusive ink ONE BLOODY DAY SHALL BE MADE WITH INK! :<

its been 1 year since I found the ink... and that year resulted me into a ink lusting spree a lust that cant be satiated because there's nothing to satisfy that inky lust... march... it shall be a long wait...

It's the same with me and Maruzen Akane. With Cigar you may eventually satiate your lust. I, however, will be damned for lifelong longing after this stunning red :/

I finally got this ink earlier this week, and now, this is the new jewel of my ink treasure room and has taken the place of the most expensive ink I have purchased.

 

My next bottle is due in March, so let's see whether I can finish this before that.

Amberlea said that it's same as Rouge Hematite version 2. Just add a drop of phenol to make it Akane.

Same smell, same color. Just beware of the glitter.
