Best Sailor Nib For Art?

........

Recommended Posts

Aye yo

Im thinking about investing in a sailor music or zoom nib and want to know which would be best for drawing. I generally draw landscapes, cosmos, and intricut patterns using contrasting ink colors. Which would be better for this, Music or Zoom? I generally use a Kuretake Fountain Brush Pen with sable hair but i would love to start using fountain pens to draw as well

I am also considering a pilot Justus 95 due to its adgustable flexibility. If you know any Sailor Specialty nibs that are less than $500 on engeika and would be especially, plz inform me as well(dont mention any fude nib cuz u can get a fude profit for $20 on engeika)

I prefer the Platinum music nib to sailor, have both. I get more range out oc the platinum, but I am a painter. The sailor music is nice, perhaps if mine was tuned better.

I also have a sailor zoom and find that good for specific problems.

Hard to advise as each draughts person has different needs. For me, the flow of the pen is of first i portance. It has to keep up with my rapid hand.

Good luck.

I like the Zoom better. I would actually advise getting the steel version in the 1911 Young AKA Somiko, not only is it less expensive but the longer barrel is an advantage when using certain brush like movements to get varied strokes, much as one would an Asian writing brush.

I'd say Fude nib

next would be the concord nib

I agree. Alternatively, buy the Richard Binder "Condor" nib, which fits in a Pelikan body. You could also try the Sailor naginata-togi in MF. The Zoom nib doesn't offer as much line width variation.

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

I`ve never heard of a steel version of the zoom nib!

Where would one get one?

I did not find it!

PS: Ok I did find it. At about 100 $ seems pricey compared to gold one (not that I believe it behaves much differently, though)

Zoom nib is available on the Young/Somiko it's a snap-cap and is one of the cheaper alternatives... its what I can say as the "poor man's Naginata Tobi" Edited by Algester

Actually the only Japanese pen I own is a Sailor Sapporo Zoom.

I quite like it, but the Zoom nib was quickly topped by my cheap Chinese Fude nib, which is so much more versatile!

I have a writing sample on this -so far, unreplied to- thread ;) :

I own both, and find them somewhat similar. Unless your turn of wrist is quicker and more agile than mine, both pens operate as triple-B nibs.

You can always turn the Music upside-down for a finer line. Same with Zoom, only better.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.
