If you like the older version of the Pelikano (>2003) you might find the Factor (P30) an interesting pen. It is almost the same pen, but in different material and color. The grip section is a little different, as it is no school pen.

I did not use much a Lamy. But I would say it ist not big a difference. The pelikano-nibs are very smooth and reliable. I never had any problems with that nib which is used in many different models in the price range <100$.

Nyanzilla: thanks for the tip.

Immelmann: to me, very. The nib is softer IMHO, and I like the grip and general ergonomic better. This being said, I would state that the Safari is a pen of a better general quality. The Pelikano is strictly a schoolboy/girl pen where the Safari might be a pen for life.

Sorry for taking so long, I think the nibs are nearly identical. The girth is very different but weight is close. The older one is thinner with a metal cap. They are both M and are some of the smoothest writers I've found out of the box. I have no clue how a Safari gets as many recommendations as it does (I have an AlStar) while Pelikanos are ignored. You'd think using international carts and converters would at least get them mentioned.

For new pens at this price point, using only my two as reference, I'd have to say they are great pens and a wonderful value.

I wish that was the case! Most of my Pelikanos and Juniors will not work with standard international carts or cons. I had to buy a Pelikan converter.

But I still love them. They write so far above their price point it's astounding.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I don't like the Safari for its grip section with that sharp edges. That forces me to hold the pen in a certain manner which is quite uncomfortable for me. So when I got my first Safari (I ordered on the internet without testing it before) I was very disappointed.

The Lamy Nexx is a bit better for its grip section is smoother and rubberized.

But I think I will buy a Lamy Studio. It has the same nib als the Safari but looks better (in my eyes) and has a round grip.

I found a couple of P460 at a sale for 50 cents each and was amazed how well they wrote. The translucent plastic and steel cap are very stylish. (And that plastic feels very good quality, not like the cheap plastic pens I see in the supermarket.) I'm trying to make up my collection but so far only have orange and red, and the orange, alas, is missing its clip.

The only sad thing about Pelikano is it doesn't have the range of nibs that the Safari does. A Pelikano with a big fat stub would be an interesting proposition!

Too many pens, too little time!

There are stub nibs in 1.0 1.5 and 2.0 mm for the Pelikan Script pen. These nibs fit also into the Pelikano.

Hi! amk, I have some 1.5 nibs for Script.

If your Pelikano is a '00 model with a steel clip, it's OK.

But '03 model with a plastic clip, my nibs will not work.

Let me know your situation.

From time to time such nibs appear on eBay. (like this http://www.ebay.de/itm/Feder-Pelikan-Scrip-Kalligraphie-Starke-2-0-fur-Pelikan-Script-Ersatzfeder-/191041439955?pt=DE_Haus_Garten_HomeOffice_Schreibger%C3%A4te&hash=item2c7af508d3

But maybe you can order them from Pelikan directly.

Or get a script pen (P52) and swap the nib.

amk

I have some spare nibs (F, M, A, L) for Pelikano P460.

And, it's not so difficult to make a hand-made italic nib from them.

Of course there will be no tipping material as usual and it's length will be a little shorter than expected. The feed may require some modification.

I'll try some work this weekend to satisfy my curiosity.

First attempt will be 1.0 nib.

I will report later.

Nib modification (remove tipping material and grind) will shorten the nib.

The gap between the feed and the paper will decrease.

Overshortening of the nib will make the feed touch the surface of the paper.

Fortunately, no problem occurred in my case.

Here you can see my Pelikanos the first series. The blue one can often see the black very rare.

At first I thought that the black Pelikano would be a conversion from a P15 / P25.

But then I got from another collector a sample of a Pelikan price list. Here was known that there is the Pelikano in black. The purchase price is given as 4.50 DM.

post-110158-0-96203100-1419773152_thumb.jpg

Unfortunately, this collector did not know when the price list is published.
I know the price list no. 110 of April 28 1963. Here only the blue Pelikano is called. The purchase price amounts to DM 4.30.
I suspect that the price list with the black Pelikano by the end of 1963 or 1964 comes, because already in 1965 appeared the successor to the Pelikanos.
Question: Does anyone know a price list according to the No. 110 and before 1965.?

I have found my blue 1988 Pelikano that I used during my schooldays. The nib is goldplated and very smooth, the ink flow perfect. Unfortunately the ink windows have cracked. And when I was in town today at a bookstore what did I see - a box with ballpoints and four red translucent Pelikanos from the year 2000! I bought them and have put the nib of my 1988 model into one of them which I`m using now. The others are kept as reserve. Oh Happy Pelikano Days!
