Recommendation For Red Ink

Albus

Recommended Posts

Hi

I would like a recommendation for red ink.

I currently have and like rose cyclament from J Herbin.

I like the pinkish colour. However, it is the most pink ink I can tolerate. It is very difficult to wash out.

Sheaffer's red is also ok. But too yellow and less intense.

I would like a recommendation from Noodler's, private reserve, organic studio, diamine.

Thank you in advance!

Noodler's Red is a good, pure red.

Organics Studio Mercury (Hg) is a nice middle of the road ink, with slightly pink undertones. Diamine Poppy, Ruby, Crimson and Red Dragon are progressively darker reds, while stopping short of Diamine's brick/blood/red brown colors like Oxblood or Merlot.

My vote is for Diamine Syrah. It gets a good review in Glenn's Pens and he feels it's color is towards a burgundy.

Diamine Classic Red - not a sexy name but a great pure red. Think of a a red muscle car from the 60's or 70's or the red wagon you had as a kid. That is Classic Red.

Levenger Pomegranate is a nice dark red.

I just finished my first fill of Noodler's Fox. I am very pleased with the color, and have just been pleased with how well it cleaned from the pen. Very little of the usual lingering red that wants to be rinsed for ever.

Edelstein Garnet is my favorite red. Not one of your requested manufacturers but worth checking out, IMO.

Diamine Wild Strawberry

Diamine Poppy Red

Both of those are "in your face" reds suitable for document marking.

+1

Two wonderful reds.

I never became friends with Red Dragon, but love Syrah - it's always the first ink a new pen gets.

Greetings,

Michael

My absolute favourite red one is Akkerman's China Town. I use it with a stub and I absolutely love. It is bright and warm. Some red's are not intense enough or a bit cold (blueish).

Have to agree; my search for "the perfect red" ended when I got this...until the next one comes along!

I like Diamine Red Dragon. I use it for grading with a fine nib, and it's dark enough not to make papers look like they're bleeding, but distinct enough to stand out. I find I rarely have a need for a "true" red. I prefer the darker, more morose shades.
