Legible Yellow

What I did when I wanted to write someone in Yellow was to mix Noodler's Yellow with Noodler's Black. The mixture is a little finicky though it is as safe as the black is. I think the yellow and black may have slightly different weights that cause them separate slightly so sometimes it could come out more black. It shades well from yellow to a darker yellow-black, is readable, and would not be confused with orange.

OOOOOH... Can you share a sample writing... I do want to see that... :puddle:

This really leaves Platinum Mix-Free Sunny Yellow, Roher & Klinger Helianthus, and De Atramentis Mahatma Gandhi as colors that could be used on their own that are not too orange and not gold. Even with them I would say they are not inks that will work with all pens on all papers, but depending on your preferences and tolerances they may at least stand a chance.

As it turns out I have an order of ink samples scheduled to arrive today of these inks plus a few others. I know that they're all going to behave differently depending on the paper/nip size/pen combination. I really hope that one of the inks works with my preferences.

I second that, even though I said I prefer not to mix I would be willing to if the end product is what I'm looking for and reproducable.

I have not had any ebay or Amazon marketplace issues yet, but if you are not in a particular rush for it to arrive and are hesitant on the other sources you could contact the Goulet Pen Company about special ordering it with their next shipment. I believe such things have been mentioned on Brian's videos, do not remember if it was pens or ink but wouldn't hurt to ask.

I would love it if Goulet had this ink as they are my primary fountain pen/ink providers, and they offer samples. I'd prefer not to have to purchase an entire bottle just in case it's not up to my expectations. So if anyone out there knows of a place that offers samples or is willing to provide please let me know. The name of the ink is De Atramentis Apricot.

I personally think DeAtramentis Apricot is too Orange to be called Yellow.

You might have to bite the bullet..

This is the only written sample I still have around. I still have some of the mix around so maybe I can fill a pen this weekend to get something more complete.

This is from the first time I mixed it. The ratios are based on drops. Drops are a rather imprecise unit of measure, I stopped at 11 because I liked it. When I mixed it again I tried 11 again using a larger volume and ended up needing more yellow to get it such that I liked it. Like, I said the mix can be a little finicky. I think the writing on the right is from the second mixing. At the ratio I used It was fine in a Jinhao Medium but too light for a Pilot Medium, so I switched to a Pilot Broad Stub.

Edit:Note: The paper itself is a Natural White.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
