Noodler's Neponset Review

Recommended Posts

Since there have been a few posts expressing interest, I thought I would share my experience with the Noodler's Neponset prototype that I won from Noodler's ink this spring. I am no Stephen Brown, but his recent video encouraging his viewers to share their experiences is why I did this. If I do it some more, I do have a Canon 5d and some nice lenses, so I might try to improve the quality. I'm still struggling with how to film the writing. Maybe the Canon can look over my shoulder or something?

A written review:

The filling mechanism:

A view of the unique nib:

And my YouTube video. As a drinking game, you could take a drink every time I say "uh".

Is the nib/feed on the Neponset the same #6 nib that is on the Konrad/Ahab? I would love to transplant that music nib into my Konrad.

This is the first I'm hearing of Noodler's outing a music nib! Looks great, and I may very well add one to my collection. Erm, after I resolve this vintage pen obsession I'm having, anyway :P

By the by, saw that same video not too long after it was uploaded. I'm likely to upload a video of myself gibbering about pens soon enough, so I'm glad that someone else also got dragged into it, haha.

Thanks for the great review!

What I understand is that it is made from the same "blank" as the Noodler's bold nib. However, when I received the pen, Nathan Tardiff also enclosed a personal note to say that the pen was delayed because he had to improve the feed. I'm guessing that the addition of the second channel is the deal. If you transplant it into your Konrad, the results may be disappointing with a music nib unless you also transplant the special feed. I do not know if the feed fits because, until your question, I never thought to try it.

But, I think you would have to transplant nib and feed together to make it work.

Wonderful! Thank you for the review. How far does the cap post on the pen? I enjoy how the Konrad's post, and found the Ahab to be a very shallow poster.

It's a fairly shallow post. I hated it waving around as I wrote, especially as the cap worked itself loose. Here's a comparison with an acrylic Konrad:

That's very cool. Thanks so much for the review, and great job! I'd love to see more. I love my Ahab, and the filling mechanism (piston? pump? bilge?) may well be my favorite filling mechanism--certainly in terms of novelty.

Would love to see these generally available from Noodler's.

That nib looks amazing! I've read in another thread the pen is going to be released very soon, I can't wait.
