Waterman's Ideal Repair Advice?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been directed over here from the repairs section as I have been given my parents fountain pens (my Dad's parker 51 which works and this waterman pen of my Mum's which is broken)

The bladder (sac) part is crumbled inside the metal part and I would really like it to be repaired. Please can anybody advise me where the best place is to send my pen to for a new sac?

Here is a photo, I hope it is clear enough to see.

Thank you for taking time to read my post.

Battersea Pen Home could do that job.

I'm sure some other members will come up with other UK repairers.

I believe that you are looking at a converter. You can substitute a more modern converter for this one.

You will find the repair expensive, if the bar converter can be removed that is.

I had/have a similar pen but could not remove the unit so I converted it to a sac. You just roll it up, dip the nib and let it go.

Thank you, I have looked at Battersea pen shop and I am sure they could do a lovely job but I am not sure I could afford £35 (I don't think this is a very expensive pen to start with) I just want to be able to use it.

Fergus/Force Please can I ask how you got the metal unit off? My husband used to repair celluloid accordions and thought the non metal part would break easily. Did you cut through the metal to add the sac? many thanks

Yes I cut through the chrome tube with the corner/edge of a needle file, leaving about 10mm (you can make it out inside the sac). Deburr the end well, inside and out with files. Degrease the chrome and apply shellac to bond the sac in place. The picture below shows about 20mm protruding...I cut this back again to 10mm. Cost about £2 for the sac and I had a small pot of shellac anyway for all pen repairs. It was about £2.50.

Thank you Fergus, you have been very helpful, I will speak to my husband and see if he feels confident to do this for me.
