Co-Razy-Views - Vintage Skrip Peacock Blue

So, as ya'll know, I spend way too much time thinking about ink.

One thing I've found is that some inks have fared well over the years and some inks have not. I did recent experiment with bottled inks in the direct sun (they didn't fade). The Skrip ink in my caboose (yes, it is a real train), is still very usable. Alas, I wondered if after all these years, the color had changed.

So, my pen pal, Mr. Charlie recently acquired a new to him bottle of Peacock Blue. I wrote him a letter and asked him to write back to me with Peacock Blue.

Expect to see more Co-Razy-Views as I post them up from other pen pals. Alas, they may be in the Comparison section or the Review section. We'll see what the moderators say. :)

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Skrip Peacock Blue was my favourite ink when I was at school. It was about as far as any of us varied from the school conventions of blue. blue/black, or black. I was given an old, mostly full, bottle of it at a pen club meeting a while back, and it is still the same colour that I remember. I use it in a P51 Vac. Your pen-pal's sample is very close to the colour I see. What I like about it, other than the colour, is that it is mostly harmless and benign. Easy to wash away and clean the pen. In a P51 Vac you don't want an ink that will take repeated and constant flushing to get out and clean the pen.

I went looking for other samples.... Here was the one in my fade test in 2012

Yep, my color was off even in 2012.

Keep in mind that not only did I leave this ink sitting in a desk drawer for 20+ years, but I would have thought nothing of combining bottles of ink back in the day.

Here is a sample from another FPNer.

Do you think I have green hiding in the Peacock Blue bottle?

The writing on the right definitely looks most like the colour from my peacock blue bottle. Maybe you put some green in yours years ago. I brought mine Nos last year from an estate sale so I imagine that would be why the colours are similar

The post above should not be regarded as the absolute and undeniable truth and facts as it may contain the garbled mutterings of an overworked, stressed and nonsensical student who may or may not be on the brink of insanity.
Please regard her with ten grains of salt and stay out of arms reach and at least ten metres away.

Much obliged,

I am not an expert, but I suspect contamination rather than degradation over time. My bottle is at least 40 years old.

I think you are right. Nothing looks wrong with the bottle.
