342 Section Removal?

Hey all.

Working on another MB I picked up yesterday--a 342. I was cleaning the pen, but there is either some very thick ink, or silicone near the the end of the ink window. I'm hoping to get some advice on removing the section to clean this out. Here are some pics:

Well, I did a bit more searching and found this thread started by penhand:

I made a paperclip tool and removed the nib/feed. I'm happy to say what I saw in the ink window is ink, and not silicone. I've got the nib/feed soaking now, as well as the barrel end.

Good luck on the cleaning. The 342 is a great pen.

Thanks, orfew

I noticed there is water behind the piston, so now I think I may have to remove the piston to clean it properly. But I'm not sure if the piston unscrews clockwise to the right, or counter clockwise to the left.

Found this thread started by crabe919 on disassembling the 344:

The piston turn counter clockwise to the left.

Well, I removed the piston, and I'm glad I did--it was covered in ink and water. After cleaning everything, lubing the piston and reassembly, the completed pen looks pretty nice. It could use a better polishing than I did, but I think it looks pretty good for now.
