We discussed serious pens...but what pen is decidedly lacking in gravitas...and IS NOT in your collection, but wish that it were? Here's one I'd love to own.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Spiders not serious?!

I do have the whimsical (albeit gorgeous) Danitrio Komori (bats).

Maybe one of those steampunk pens that Roger Cromwell sells. Yeah. One of those would be cool.

A Conway Stewart Churchill would be nice.

^ Yes. Or maybe a Nakaya. Both are just a bit...okay, a lot...out of my price range.

OH, and since this needs to have an inky thought... tomorrow's question will be what ink for that frivolous pen.

Wish I'd bought the Tombow Egg fountain pen when it was available. Just so short and sweet and fat.

A Jinhao Dragon pen that is completely impractical for writing (so incredibly heavy), it's reasonably ergonomic and the nib is great but it's only tolerable for 5 minutes at a time, but it also looks great and I'm never going to get rid of it.

Another is a Nakaya skull pen I saw when I was thinking about getting a Nakaya.

None of those float my boat to the point of wanting (regardless of affordability). A few I admire for their craftsmanship, but as a writing instrument? No.

I have to agree somewhat with Runnin_Ute. Pens like some of the ones shown would not be in my stash collection. "Frivolous" should still mean "usable" -- just not necessarily the daily writer tossed into the bottom of a backpack.

For me, the most "frivolous" pen would be a Yard-O-Led Viceroy Victorian, with a broad 18K nib. (Yes, I know, a V V Standardis a grail pen for me to begin with). It would be the one pen I'd probably be afraid to take out of the house, for fear of losing it. But boy, is it pretty.

A close runner would be the completely unaffordable (to me anyway) Pelikan 400 Brown Tortoise that is currently on the Evil Bay for about a months' worth of car payments for our two current vehicles. Simply because of the mind-boggling nib on it (I wonder whether the seller would accept an offer of $200 for it... :lticaptd:). Let's just say that in comparison the YoL would be *affordable* -- especially if I settled for a steel nib on it instead of the 18K one, and leave it at that.

And just for giggles, that bright pink "Hello Kitty" pen someone posted a picture of a couple of years ago. I could actually have seen myself using that pen. Except for the price. And of course the "Hello Kitty" part....

Actually, probably the most frivolous pen I *currently* own is a Morrison ringtop with a GF filigree overlay -- partly because of the "bling" factor, partly because it doesn't actually hold a whole lot of ink (and has a really juicy nib to boot), and partly because it's a ringtop, so for some definition it could count as jewelry. Plus, it was -- up until recently -- my most expensive pen: I bought a GF "lobster" clasp and an extra GF jump ring, plus 2 different weights of black silk yarn, all for making myself a sautoir for it....

In anticipation of tomorrow's "Inky T O D":

Dunno what I'd put in the V V, but it might be some relatively expensive ink like Yama-budo; for the Pelikan with the astounding nib, it would be something with shading (Noodler's Liberty's Elysium) or absolutely astounding sheen (J Herbin Rouge Hematite). And while so far I've only put Quink Black in the Morrison ringtop, the gold-over-black is asking for either purple (maybe Private Reserve Purple Mojo or that vintage Quink Violet I picked up over the summer) or green (I have a sample of Diamine Emerald that might be quite nice coming out of that nib).

I would like to try out those plastic flex nibs that some people are talking about.

Tonight I was using my MB 146 with OB nib, lest we forget how nice it is and how lucky we are.

With R&K Scabiosa...fairly pascal I think.
