Is It A Stick? Is It A Pen? No! Its A Seaman

A pen or a stick? A Seaman's 'stick' pen that belonged to my wife's grandfather. At least 50 years old.

Compared with a 'tiny' M200

Opened up to reveal 2 pens

Nib has the following - "M?HATRE", "WRITE" & "TIPPED 1CP????"

The brand name faintly inked on the body

Body is in good condition. One of the nibs is in excellent condition but the feed is damaged. The other, mostly the black ink side is badly corroded and the feed is also damaged. Any idea of the feeds that may fit this?

Nice pen. The color is beautiful.

In India, these pens are known as Ruler pens as they doubled up as rulers for drawing lines. Guider, Ratnam make them. Waiting for the lot to be delivered :)

So... you have fencing competitions in between writing? :D lol. It seems like something they did to give you two nibs in one easy to rest container.

It looks to be a swagger stick - which was carried tucked under the arm and held horizontally (google for pics of people with swagger sticks).

It's a very smart thing!

That would make a really good Latin teacher's pen. One pen for black ink for writing, one pen for red ink for correcting (my homework always looked as if a spider had been dipped in red ink and crawled all over the page), and a cane for naughty children!

Mr Philpot was our Latin teacher, but as his initials were TGP we called him PG Tips. English school humour; an acquired taste!

Too many pens, too little time!

I would love some pictures of the patterns in the hard rubber. Try taking the pen to a pen turner. The nibs and feeds will need to be fitted.

That doesn't sound so crazy once you think about it :P ... I wonder when they stopped teaching Latin in high school for most US schools (I know they stopped teaching simple stuff like cursive nearly 20 years ago).

Will post those in a bit (Its a bit like spotted ebo. Very understated compared to the ebonites available presently). The feed and nib seems to be friction fit or else it could be some gunk making it feel so. Anyway this pen is going to a doc...
