I have two of these, or very similar, and I think they came with international standard cartridges. I put in a Schmidt converter, fits perfectly. No leakage issues at all, but the M nib is a little wide and wet for my taste. Other than that, I agree with your assessment: nice, even beautiful pens. I am trying to get an F nib for them - would use them more.

The superb F section/grip size is very slim. An FP of same length but better grip is F27

In my review in 4 FP comparative image the brown one is F27 and green one is superb F.

Are they not the same? My mistake! The one I have is F27. I thought Superb was another name for it. I stand corrected...

The nib unit is easily distinguished from that on the F27. the lack of the nib breather hole, if not for the shape. HTH.

I've been told it is friction fit, and have managed to get it out on one of them. During the process the whole nib assembly came out of the section - it was glued in! I had to use glue to put it back together. I wanted to see if I could swap the nib out, because the M was too gushy for me. I am now waiting for an F nib to take its place. The fit was very tight!

The FH452 as it comes from SChmidt is a thread in nib unit. I don't know if Oliver cut corners and simply glued it into the section instead of making a proper matching thread for it, for whatever reason. That is not a very brainy thing to do, but you never know.

You should consider yourself lucky you could remove the nib from the nib unit without causing much harm. A metal collar is crimped over the plastic nib-feed housing on the FH452, yielding a very tight fit.

Had I known the amount of effort required, in addition to the luck you mention, I doubt if I would have tried. But, once encouraged to, I persevered, using a lot of the tricks named on FPN, and was able to remove it without any damage to either housing, nib, or section. In addition to luck, it took patience. And soaking in water...

  • 1 month later...

Well. I bought an F27 Oliver and hate. Yes...hate the nib. I want to change the feeder and the nib. I am infatuated with the pen itself and my son loves it but he is 16 and takea my Faber Castell e motion instead of the Oliver which he adores I might add.

I am a newbie with a lot of experience for the month or two I am seriously into fountain pens. I smoothen pens out a lot bit this iridium nib makes a noise which makes your spine swivel up while goose pimples glow!! My wife tried it a few times and she thought ot was worst than going to dentist...

Question is....does anyone think I can take out the feeder and nib and switch it with an amazingly smooth nib with its feeder?

Im sure most of u think Frankenstein...but thats okay. I don't mind..

I had trouble with the two F27s I bought but not that the nib was scratchy - it was very smooth, but too wide for my taste. A broad medium, I'd say, where I wanted a fine. Flow was terrific though. I tried to grind the nib down a bit, and it worked, so to speak, but I'm no nibmeister and it shows. So, I wanted to take the nib out and replace it - I had a lot of trouble getting it out, it's friction fit within a housing, and it took me days of soaking and trying, with short times in warm water in between, to get it out. I learned later that the nib and feed, in their housing, are supposed to be changed together if necessary. In your place I would contact the seller and see if they can help you. I've found both Asapens (where I've seen them) and Mesu (from whom I bought mine) extremely helpful in case of trouble.

And from what you say, you may just have a case of misaligned tines, which should be relatively easy to remedy.

Good luck; they are really nice pens. I'm very happy with mine.

Look under a 45x or 60x lens to see exactly whats the problem with nib.
