Visconti Van Gogh Maxis - The Original 14Kt

Ghost Plane

Recommended Posts

Forgive the blurry iPad photos but I can't get a good shot where I am. The light off the pen furniture blurs no matter the angle. But Sham69 asked to see some of the colors, so here are my B nibbed capped. I couldn't get a clear shot of the nibs under current conditions.

These are the original Van Goghs, not to be confused with Visconti's magnetic closure, steel-nibbed current production.

If I can get a nib shot later under better lighting, I'll try again.

Here is the earliest form with the simple clip, twist fastener that appears again later in the Homo Sapiens, and the older two-tone Visconti nib. Note the lack of elaborate decorative banding at the section edge closest to the nib.

Now one of the last colors offered with a newer style nib, threaded cap, and more decorative section. The clip is standardized to the Visconti arch found in more modern pens.

I used to have an ivory colored one, one of my best writing companions. Right weight, balance and nib. As we speak, it is pleasing another fellow FPNer :)

By the way, as always great pictures Ghost Plane, I would lie if I told you I wasn't a tiny bit envious of your collection :D

Glad to share. I'm a major pen user, so I picked up multiples when something really worked for me & I had the income.

Could I get by with one great pen? Sure. But they're portable art I enjoy.

Nice collection. I only have one Van Gogh Maxi - the later style with bridge clip, in white/vanilla. It writes nicely and I like the various resins - so far Visconti are one of the few brands I've seen with non-celluloid plastics that rival the aesthetics of celluloid.

Thanks so much for the photos Ghost Plane, beautiful stuff. I was in search for an original maxi for a long time, until yesterday when I found an Australian site that had 15 original Maxi's in stock with 14k nibs for 187 AUD or about 140 USD, this is a great deal as they were up to 250 USD when being sold! I have ordered a musk medium nib and a vanilla broad. I am not 100% sure if they ship internationally but I assume they would. Here is the site for anyone after one http://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/catalog/searchresults.aspx?brands=Visconti&s=phl#&&/wEXAQUNc2VhcmNocmVzdWx0cwUCMjCCeO94lGC0gMGgX/x248Mv/ZXfNA==

That is practically what I say. I don't usually classify myself as a collector as I purchase pens to write with; however when being entirely honest with myself I definitely have acquired a collection, but the pens I own all get used at some point even briefly. They are portable art I enjoy also!

My van gogh's came today! they are amazing, the nibs are perfect, monotone 14k's. Very satisfied!

I took the vanilla to the office this morning to be my office pen; but here is the musk! It has the slightest translucence under brighter lights.

Yes! Doing a victory boogie on your behalf!

Pictures when you get a chance?

yes the medium was wrongly listed for this musk green pen on the peters website, so I have received a vanilla broad and musk fine. I have never liked fine nibs but this one is quite smooth. They don't have any more mediums in stock unfortunately so this will have to do; perhaps I will find someone in the future to swap it with or maybe just get a fine stub grind.

GP, Is the one on the left the swisher model or was it a standard production? Besides the blue I have, the swisher is one I really like the color of.

I am considering a van gogh eye dropper >.> if only the section threads were not metal. I do not think it is a very good idea!!!!

Sham,

I have a barely used medium that I would gladly swap for your fine. Nib and section only, not the pen. I like my blue pen too much to send it away! I've barely used the pen because the medium nib is just not the right size for me. I know I would use it a lot more with a fine nib.

PM me if you are interested.

PS: The medium nib is super smooth.

I love the old Van Gogh Maxis. The one I REALLY wish I had was an Evergreen. I have a Midi but it's just not the same. I bought a Maxi off Fleabay once hoping it was an Evergreen but it turned out to be a Musk (leaving me with two of those - oops).

Yes, it's the Swisher LE and my favorite.
