Pilot Su (Stub) Nib Line Width?

Hello. I searched around for a bit but the newest thread on this topic and came up with this: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/197653-pilot-music-ms-vs-stub-su-nib-comparison/

From the pictures there it looks like there's definitely some noticeable, if subtle, line variation with the SU nib. Is it fairly smooth? I love my Pilot nibs because of how smooth they are, even the fines.

Does anyone know the line width on the SU, in millimeters? Or better yet, what's the closest comparable nib size in the standard Pilot sizes (XF, F, M, B...)? If it's about equal to a Pilot medium or narrower, that would be ideal.

I'm thinking a Custom Heritage 912 will be my next Pilot FP, and I can get it with an SU nib, so I'm seriously considering it.

Thanks. :)

I have a Custom 823 with an SU nib and I love it. I use it all the time. The line variation is subtle, but enough to give my writing just a hint of pizzazz.

I tried to measure it, but without an accurate ruler it is difficult. Maybe 0.9 (ish), or 0.8? It's definitely NOT a fine.

Awesome photos. Thanks!

Wow, that's surprising. If I didn't know better I wouldn't have realized it was a stub nib. I would've assumed it was one of those broad nibs you occassionally run into that's "stubbish." Like you said, though, it does give the writing pizzazz, and looks like it puts down a great line.

I've already got a 0.9mm Pendleton Point stub-italic, so I think I'll hold off on this nib for a while. I wish we could get a bigger selection of nibs on some of the lower end models in this line (like the Custom 74). The 912 and 743 are expensive for experimenting.

'SU' stands for 'Sutab'. Its the Japanese to English phonetic translation ('Sutab' is how 'Stub' is pronounced in Japanese accent.)

There's the SU nib, and the MS (Music) nib, more like a broader stub.
