(My reasoning on posting this Here is that it may interest those who might not usually visit the Esterbrook sub-forum.)

The Esterbrook sub-forum's Estie Loaner Program would like to give YOU the chance to win your very own beautiful minty restored Red Esterbrook J with a nice 2668 Medium nib.

It comes to you with just one very thin string attached.
The winner of this pen will indeed get the pen shipped to them Free IF they will agree to offer it as a Loaner pen in the Estie Loaner Program for 1 year. Now, the reality of this thin string is that currently the program has 18 Loaner pens with 35 nibs on 3 continents available for FPNers to borrow. It is possible that during your "conscripted" year you Might be asked to send the pen out once, maybe twice, maybe not at all. (a Borrow period is 2 weeks) This is a meagerly small token to ask in return for a Very Nice Pen. (Also keep in mind that the way the Loaner Program works, it doesn't actually Cost the program Loaner Outter anything to loan a pen out as the borrower pays the postage.)
(FYI, The first post in this thread explains how the Esterbrook Loaner Program works. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/226468-the-esterbrook-forum-estie-loaner-program/ )
The most gracious and generous donation of this Dubonnet J to the Loaner Program by FPNer ANM makes this contest and gifting possible.<the missing clapping hands emoticon> The pen arrived to me in very good condition and I've checked it out inside and given it a polish and a resac. The pen had it's original stamped Esterbrook sac in it that was still serviceable but was replaced to stay on the safe side. The inside of the barrel is "sterile" and looks like the pen left the factory yesterday. There is not a single mark on the outside of the pen except of course, the clear imprint. ANM and I both thought it would make a perfect match to Dorothy's Ruby slippers.
By now you must be surely asking yourself, "Self, what must I do to enter this contest and maybe take this beauty home?"
(Those of you who know me should be able to almost predict where this is going...) ;)
Very simply, with a favorite FP, pen a paragraph as to why you'd like this Estie J and/or to participate in the Estie Loaner Program. Bang Your Drum!! Be sure and also ID your pen And ink used in your post. Take a pic of your written paragraph along with your pen that wrote it and post that image back to THIS thread. Please Follow Instructions.
(If you are unfamiliar with this concept of a Show your writing, pen and ink post, this thread is LOADED with Primo examples. A decent enough post pic can be taken with most any phone and some care. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/220874-dont-just-tell-us-about-the-pen-youre-using-show-us/ ) [EDIT] The 3 pics in this post were taken with my LG Spirit phone.
In the spirit of the Estie Loaner Program, for me personally, I'd prefer the pen go to someone who doesn't already Have an Estie (Past owners exempted) but hey, that's just My opinion and I get that same One vote as everyone else. So please don't consider that any Requirement to enter. ANY FPNer who is a member at the time of this post is welcome to enter. I see no reason to restrict entries to a Single entry but in the event of multiple entries from the same FPNer, each entry will stand alone on it's own individual merits for voting purposes. (No, this Ain't my first rodeo here...) :)
We'll let the contest run for 7 days and then put it up to a FPN wide vote. Remember that drum? Be sure everyone in our little village hears YOURS! with your entry. The entry deadline will be Saturday night, 12/14/13 at midnight Eastern time.
The winner of their own "new" Esterbrook will be the one given the most votes for their entry by their FPNer peers.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Pens! (and your imaginations!)

The best I can do right now on that is a Maybe.

I have not had the best of luck with Estie XF nibs myself but that could also be because I'm REALLY Not a XF guy.

IF I could find one of my XF nibs that was a good writer, I wouldn't have a problem switching them if that's what the winner wanted. But again, consider that a maybe, not a certainty. I would probably have much better luck finding a nice Fine nib to substitute if the winner preferred that.

I just inked it up a bit ago and it's a smooth wet Medium now. A very nice writer.

Wow, what a wonderful idea. I didn't even realize that loaner program existed. There's always something to find here that amazes me!

That is one seriously snazzy pen. I'm an estie fanatic from way back, so I'm not really eligible. I just wanted to give a thumbs up to the proceedings.

That pen DEFINITELY goes all the way up to 11!

I'm gonna have to go find one to add to the stash I think ;)

What a gorgeous pen! My Lamy 2000 got immediately jealous of this beauty, and I decided to report our conversation below:

Well done Kronian, and a gold star too for your observation.

You are correct that the 30 post minimum to Borrow an Estie from the program Was Not carried forward to this contest. That Was purposeful. (That 30 post figure is the Same minimum to post a classified ad on FPN, That's how that number was originally derived.)

The purpose of the minimum post limit to Borrow was to help prevent the unlikelihood of someone bumping into the Loaner Program and joining FPN with the sole purpose of "borrowing" an Estie perhaps to abscond with it. It's been helpful with that apparently as with the 24 pens that have been sent out so far, ALL have returned and have returned undamaged. You Will Note however that there was a similar request that all entries here be from FPNers who were Already members at the time of the contest start post.

It seemed to me, with our members participating Publicly in the contest with their own Creativity And in doing so, Publicly agreeing to send out the Dubonnet J if and when requested to do so, that the same minimum post count "safety net" to Enter the contest Wasn't as needed as to just Borrow a pen from the Loaner Program.

This is my entry. I don't know how much it would be for postage from New Zealand to over seas for a pen (in a case) with extra cushioning but I have just looked at the times which are approx 2-6 days, 3-10. or 10-25 days

The post above should not be regarded as the absolute and undeniable truth and facts as it may contain the garbled mutterings of an overworked, stressed and nonsensical student who may or may not be on the brink of insanity.
Please regard her with ten grains of salt and stay out of arms reach and at least ten metres away.

Much obliged,

Dragon,

We don't send the Esties out insured and we've not had one go missing. I can safely pack a pen and ship it international for around $3.

In the event you are voted the winner, we already have 3 pens, 2 in the UK and one in Australia where those Loaner Outters have requested only in country loan outs to further reduce the postage. There's nothing to say another very nice Loaner pen in New Zealand for NZ/Australia borrowers wouldn't work too. ;)

Secretely i was hoping this thread would get relegated to the depths of the forum to never be posted on again and increase me changes ;)

but as it turns out Ocala here wouldnt allow that to happen with his bumping ways :lticaptd:

It would be sad indeed if the Perfect Winner didn't get their chance because they didn't see the thread...

One COULD perhaps increase their own odds if say they were to enter more than once. Each of their entries would be judged on it's own merits.

Sorry!!! Forgot to include the pen. And I'd screwed up the piece of Tomoe paper I'd written my entry on. So I'm attaching a second pic. I hope this doesn't disqualify me

I would be happy to send overseas if I was the recipient, the more people who could try it out, the merrier :D It would take me a few days to get it out with having to find out international postage costs and all. I wish everyone luck to win and hopefully over the pens life as a loaner it won't get mangled in the post process

Hello guys, here is my "application". This is the first time that I'm posting a photo, so it's very likely that I would click in the wrong button and instead of uploading a photo I will format FPN disks :(

Anyway, I'm enjoying the thread very much. There are very nice letters!
