I found a way to do it that is unfortunately not an original refill but fortunately is better. I used a Lubriglide refill, the problem with some Paper Mates is that they need a slim writing tip to fit in the pen and the Lubriglide fits into the writing end. A piece of wide gel refill was fitted over the plastic top end of the Lubriglide then a piece of thinner ballpoint refill fitted into that, this fits into the retract mechanism correctly. Now the pen functions as normal and works all fine.

Thanks, that's useful to know. For my own situation I did go and buy a new Lubriglide today - the one in the photos is being used in another pen so I was just seeing what would work.
